Maths Talent Quest Projects
CONGRATULATIONS
Over the end of Term 2 and the start of Term 3 every class in the school worked on Maths projects to enter into the Maths Talent Quest run by the Maths Association of Victoria. This required the class to think up an investigation and then carry out that investigation.
This week we recieved the results of our projects which was that each class received a Distinction which is a fantastic result!
Below is a quick description of each project and some feedback received by the judges. Class teachers will send home the PDF copy of our projects for families to have a look at next week so you can see the hard work our students have been doing.
F/1A - Playground Ponderings
What they did: An investigation to find out what Maths we can see and do in and around our school.
Feedback from judges: A wonderful investigation that shows the students have now seen that maths is everywhere if we look hard enough to find it, well done!
1/2A - Pig the Mathematician
What they did: A investigation into all the maths that comes from the Pig the Pug stories!
Feedback from judges: A wonderful class inquiry incorporating literacy and many layers of mathematical thinking. What a fantastic investigation 1/2 A. Pig the Pug is such a funny book that so many kids love around Australia so what a great idea for a project! Who knew how much Maths was inside it! I can see you have learnt lots during your work and have shown many different startegies for solving the same equations. I hope you all learnt something new as well as had lots of fun in your Maths lessons too!
3/4A - Cardboard Cars
What they did: The students made cars from cardboard and then explored all the maths related to their cars
Feedback: Great class project covering a wide range of mathematical concepts. A thorough and unique investigation undertaken in this project with a range of mathematical skills applied.
4/5A - Cooking Class
What they did: The students investigated a recipe to bake and then make taking in lots of measuring, money and calculations. The students then taste tested and provided feedback on the recipes and analysed the data provided through the feedback.
Feedback: A unique investigation with a range of mathematical skills applied including statistics and financial literacy. Well done!
5/6A - Bottle Flipping Maths
What they did: The students investigated all the maths encompassed in bottle flipping with a heavy focus on data and probability and what's the best amount of water in a bottle to get the most flips!
Feedback: An interesting concept. Very must a real life scenario and age appropriate A range of mathematical skills have been applied in this unique project investigation.
