Science Week
Last week, as part of Science Week, we were lucky enough to have Emma and Tom from the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC) run a two-day incursion with our grade 3-6 students. The sessions were engaging and hands-on, with students and teachers walking away more knowledgeable and curious about our fascinating solar system, as well as learning new coding skills.
A fantastic bonus of the incursion was having Emma run an astronomy night, where students and parents were given the opportunity to learn about key features of our night sky before seeing them up close on the VSSEC telescopes. It was fabulous to see so many of our families engage with this session and we thank Emma and Tom for sharing their knowledge and passion for space with us. We all loved it!
Library/Book Week
On Monday we will be celebrating Book Week by holding a parade shortly after 9am where students are invited to dress as their favourite book character. Mum & Me coffee van will be at school from 8.30 am, enjoy a coffee on us, mix with other families and enjoy our fabulous Book Week Parade.
Following the parade all students will participate in activities based on 4 of the shortlisted books. Students will also enjoy a virtual session with Michael Salmon on Thursday.
In the lead up to this event students have been enjoying the theme 'Reading is Magic' in our Library. Thanks to Mrs Collins for her work on this event.
P-2 Zoo Trip
When we got to school we went to the bus bay to get on the bus to go to the zoo. On the bus Jack Bunce let me have an activity book. At the zoo we had lunch after we went to the Meerkats. Not too long after that we went to the Education Centre. Soon we saw lamas then we saw a duck. We wanted to see the gorillas but there were none. We saw the seals instead. We went in the ‘Lose Yourself Maze” It is a maze where at every dead end there is a toilet seat with some animal poo underneath it. At 1:30 pm we had lunch. An hour later we went on the bus to go back to school. On the bus I played with Indi Kennedy's rubix cube. We got back to school at 6:00pm precisely. Before we got home, we had to drop off Indi at her house.

I yawned when mum woke me up but I was still excited to go to the zoo. First we went on a bus to the Melbourne Zoo. The first thing we did at the zoo was eat. Next we went to see some animals like giant tortoises, lizards, giraffes and elephants. After we saw some animals we went to the Education Centre.
Rrrrrr roared the tiger when we were walking around the zoo. When we were coming back I felt like it took longer but we finally got back to school.

Melbourne Zoo - by Evie
Vroom, vroom off we go to the Melbourne Zoo. The bus is full of excited Prep, 1 and 2 kids. Mia and I fell asleep in the bus on the way to the Zoo, and on the way back to school. I was with my mum, Jordan's mum, Mia, Jack, Jordan, Noah and Tom and Mon. First, we ate our lunch together and after that got into our groups. Then we went to the toilet and then we started to explore the zoo. The first animal we saw was the Lemur’s. Then the tiger that was walking back and forth in its enclosure, we thought it was a very hungry tiger. The next animal we saw was the elephants and then we saw the lion. The lion was asleep in the warm sun. Then we saw the dingo’s and they looked like dogs. After that we had an education session about the giant tortoises but they were babies, so they were very small. The baboons were my favourite animal. I had a good day.
Melbourne Zoo - by Grayce
On Friday the 9th of August, we went to the Melbourne Zoo. First, we had a snack and then we got into our groups. I was with Olivia, Dakota and Nicole. Next, we looked at the animals. My favourite animal was the giraffe. We learnt a lot about the animals. The giraffes were so tall, and they had different patterned and sized spots. I learnt that giraffes live in hot and dry areas. At the end of the day, we went back to school, and we had a lot of fun.

After that we took a picture of the tortoise. I really loved the tortoise and the Meerkats. After walking lots we got exhausted and then we got back on the bus and went back to school. It was a good day.
