News From Mr Smith

Dear School Community Members,

“We absolutely loved our first experience of a Mano concert! It was incredibly professional and it really looked like the kids (and staff!) enjoyed themselves. Please pass on our thanks to Mrs Grant and Mrs Cail!” Parent of Prep student

“That was so much fun… being on the stage with the big lights and seeing the thousands of people watching me made me a bit shaky but I really enjoyed it… wish I could do it again!” Prep student

“I don’t often do this, but I want to tell you that your school is something special… The show was awesome.. My colleagues and I loved all the music and items – you probably saw us dancing while we were meant to be working… and your students are the most well mannered and well behaved group we have had here for some time!” Usher of Costa Hall

Mano is a great place top be!

Wow - our concert on Monday night showcased the incredible school we all belong too! The comments above are a small sample of the thoughts and feedback from our Concert. I encourage all families to take the time with their children to reflect on the success of the concert, the amazing skills of your children and how proud you are of your children – this will assist children placing the experiences of Monday night in their long term memory. I also encourage families to reflect on the incredible school we all belong to.

To our families, our sincere appreciation for your support with costumes and your attendance.

Mano is a great place to be!

School Values – Responsible Ronnie: As we continue to work on embedding and nurturing our school values into ‘life’ at Mano, I encourage families to continue the promotion of our values at home. Responsibility is being dependable, making good choices, and taking accountability for your actions. A responsible person looks out for the well-being of others and understands we all have a part to play in making our school a better place. Our students will continue to learn, through explicit lessons and role playing, about ‘responsibility’ and how being responsible will enhance and enrich their life. We look forward to the support of our community in promoting our values.

Sunsmart Hats: It is that time of the year when we need to ‘dust’ off the Mano Sunsmart Hat. All students are required to wear their Sunsmart Mano hat from Monday (August, 19th) during all outside activities. This is part of the ‘Student Dress Code’ and ‘Sun Smart’ policies of our school. Students will be required to play in a designated shaded area if they don’t have their Sunsmart hat. Please locate your child’s Sunsmart Hat and send along to school from Monday.

Grade 6 Camp: I am thrilled to report that our Grade 6 Learning Community have had a fantastic first day and night on camp at Cave Hill Creek. Highlights include canoeing, archery and “hanging out with our friends”. We look forward to sharing further highlights next week.

National Week of Action against Bullying – Everyone Belongs: This week is the National Week of Action against Bullying and Violence. The week is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative for schools and provides an opportunity to connect with students, staff and our school community to implement workable solutions to prevent bullying. The 2024, the theme, Everyone Belongs, promotes the importance of school, family and community connections in building safe and supportive learning environments where all students can belong, feel accepted and respected.

Research has shown that strong school connections and positive relationships can help to prevent bullying. When students feel a sense of belonging and connectedness at school, they are more likely to enjoy school, to trust and respect their teachers, and be concerned about and help others.

Our students engage in our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program that help to grow connections and promote inclusiveness, respect and community belonging for all students.

Thank you to our Positive Behaviour and Wellbeing Ambassadors and Mrs Forsyth for promoting the week and the key message of this significant week.

Literacy and Numeracy Week – Week of 2nd September: Mano will celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week from Monday, 2nd September. Many fabulous activities have been planned to continue to develop the love of reading and books and a strong appetite for all things maths. Key events will be our Grandparents and VIP afternoon, along with our celebration of our favourite book. Further details regarding the week and the other events are inlcuded in today's newsletter.

Thank you for supporting our school and have a great week.
