At the recent Principals Conference, the Minister for Education and Deputy Premier, Mr Ben Carroll, spoke about his recent visit to John Fawkner College and the work that we have been doing to transform the school.

And last week at parliament, Anthony Cianflone MP, state member for Pascoe Vale, also referred to John Fawkner College and the great progress of our school.

We are immensely proud of this work to date and watch with enormous satisfaction the very positive changes in the school.

Last week saw the start of the Melbourne Victory program at JFC and pictured above is the Year 9 team! We are looking forward to seeing them all in their new uniforms next term. The students did us proud in the first training sessions and we congratulate the year 9 and 10 students all for making the pilot team.

Term 3 is half over already and we are already planning for next year. We have a very stable staff now and do not anticipate many changes at the end of the year, which is terrific for our forward planning.

We have changed the way that Year 10 looksand already feel that this change will have a very positive impact on the current year 9 students, who last week chose their subjects for next year. It is very significant that we are no longer making those decisions for the students and they have this opportunity to start to pave their own way ahead. We are still available should any students and families wish to receive more advice.

Year 10 students have also received their course counselling and we are almost ready to release the subject choices for next year. Next will be year 8, who will for the first time have the opportunity to select a couple of their subjects at year 9.

We hope to continue to offer a broad range of subjects across all year levels - however, this comes at great extra cost to the school as we are a small school with a limited budget. For this reason, I ask again that parents contribute what they can towards the school fees as every extra cent coming in means we can offer broader opportunities for your children. Please contact the office if you would like to contribute to the school fees or set up an ongoing payment plan.

With just a few weeks to go, our Year 12 VCE students have almost finished Unit 4 and will be preparing for exams. We ask that parents please appreciate the time and efforts your child has put in this year to make it to this stage and support them through the final few months of their schooling.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Mr Daniel Crane, who has acted as Assistant Principal this term in Mr Hakki's absence, and trust that he has enjoyed his time at John Fawkner College, working with our students and families. Mr Hakki will return on Monday 2 September. I will be away for the last two and a half weeks of this term, during which time Mr Hakki will be Acting Principal.

Please enjoy the first term 3 newsletter.
