Lone Pine Ceremony

On Thursday 5 September, our students and special guests gathered around our Lone Pine tree for our annual ceremony.

Gavon Armstrong from Legacy was our MC for the ceremony and the significance of the tree was explained.

We were very lucky to have 2 guest speakers this year, Matilda Sowter (student) on her Kokoda scholarship and experience with the trek.  Also, The Hon. Peter Walsh M.P also spoke how it is important for students to honour and remember how the soldiers were only often 17 or 18 when they enlisted.

Liz Spicer (O.A.M) unveiled our special tribute (statue) of Bob Drysdale (Lone Pine Bob) which was kindly donated by the Chaplaincy committee, with Doug Drysdale (seen in the photo with Alwyn Bob’s wife).

Liz also spoke on how the tree and statue is a symbol to remember how we live this great life because of those who went before us.

Thank you to everyone involved to make this event so special to all of us.

With gratitude,
