Literacy
What an amazing term we have had, it has been jam packed with some amazing learning. We started the term out delving into the Olympics and learning about Olympians and events. We have completed a unit on podcasting and audio recorder texts and each student worked with a small group write their own podcast on an Olympic event, country that competed in the Olympics or an athlete. We have also written our first draft of a short story, which will be published into an anthology of stories. The students are currently working on a persuasive text, looking at the structure and emotive and persuasive language.
As a part of this unit we have been learning about persuasive techniques in reading and how authors appeal to Ethos, Pathos and Logos when trying to persuade. This learning will be demonstrated through an ad campaign to sell a fictional product.
Numeracy
In Numeracy this term we have focused on the procedural and practical uses of fractions, decimals and percentages. Students have developed written and mental strategies to find 50%, 25% and 10% of a total. This skill has been used to solve worded problems and create financial budgets.
The students have also began to look at using Cartesian Planes and how to locate and plot coordinates in all four quadrants.
Book Week Project
As a celebration of reading and book week, students have been working with a chosen partner from across the year level to create a book review diorama. This will consist of a scene from their chosen book and a detailed review.
Events
There will be three different events going up on compass for the end of the year celebrations and we aim to get these all on, by early next term.
We have:
