Literacy

This term the students have worked on creating Information Reports. The students learnt about note-taking skills, such as identifying important information and summarising and applied this knowledge to written, digital and audio texts. The students followed the writing process to draft, revise and edit and publish their information texts. We have also been focusing on correct letter formation and sizing in handwriting, as the students work towards achieving their Pen Licence.

Maths

The students were highly engaged in a number of Maths activities that were inspired by the Olympics this term. The students participated in a mini 3/4 Olympics, where they recorded their results using units of measurements and then displayed their results using digital data tools. The students also worked on worded problems, such as creating an itinerary for a trip to Paris to watch the Olympics, using multiplication and estimation skills to ensure that their trip remained within the given budget.

Inquiry

Students explored the Permaculture Principle #8 Integrate Rather Than Segregate. Some examples of integration in the edible garden include the new orchard in the chicken run, fruit trees in their own ecological communities. The Recyclers helped with Worm Farm management and looking after the chickens. The Green Thumbs made Bee Hotels to attract and protect pollinators for the garden and sowed new seeds for Spring. The Foodies made mini herb quiches and rhubarb muffins.
