Maroondah Girls AFL Gala Day from Manya & Helena:
On Friday 2nd May, year 5 and 6 girls got the opportunity to compete in the Maroondah Girls AFL Gala day. The event was held at Manson Reserve in Wantirna. We competed against schools such as Ringwood Heights, Ringwood North, Tinternvale, Sacred Heart, Great Ryrie, Warranwood, Kalinda, Eastwood, and Antonio Park.
We played pool games consisting of 2x12 mins then semi finals in the afternoon. We had Lilydale High school students umpire our games. Our POPS 1 team came 2nd in their pool and our POPS 2 team came 3rd in our pool.
The girls gala day was really fun and enjoyable. We learnt how to play footy properly with bear hug tackling. It was an amazing experience to play against other schools and learn from them. There were breaks after every single game and that time gave us a chance to practise our footy skills.
Thank you to Mr Edgcumbe and Mrs Carbone for coaching us and to all the parents who helped out with transport.

Summer Interschool Sport Winners:
Congratulations our T20 Cricket Open team and our Teeball Open team for their outstanding performances in Term 1, where they represented our school proudly in the Ringwood District School Sports Association.
Both teams demonstrated exceptional teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship, earning their place in the Term 4 finals. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to cheering them on later this year.
House Cross Country:
Yesterday morning, we were treated to a warm autumn day for our much-anticipated House Cross Country at Domeney Reserve. The atmosphere was electric, with students in their house colours showing support for one another while enjoying a spirited day of fun and competition.
Students from Years 3 to 6 participated in age-group races; 12/13-year-old boys and girls, 11-year-old boys and girls, and 9/10-year-old boys and girls. The course began and ended on the oval, taking participants on a scenic route around Domeney Reserve, with a particularly challenging loop through the 100 Acres. The 12/13-year-olds and 11-year-olds ran 3km (two laps), while the 9/10-year-olds covered 2km (one lap).
The House Cross Country serves as an important selection event for the District Cross Country, with the top 10 place-getters in each age group earning the privilege of representing our school. A huge congratulations to all the students who placed in the top 10 in each group!
Special recognition goes to the following students, who finished in the top 3 of their age groups:
12/13yo girls | 12/13yo boys | 11yo girls | 11yo boys | 9/10yo girls | 9/10yo boys | |
1st | Summer C | Makalo B | Eden B | Harvey W | Chloe C | Max B |
2nd | Emmeline T | Beau D | Grace S | Will R | Beatrix C | Judd H |
3rd | Aditi K | Leon M | Harper S | Seb D | Milla C | Danny M |
I am incredibly proud of all our students for their outstanding performances. Cross-country running is no easy feat, and it challenges both the body and the mind. We saw so many wonderful examples of our school values in action — kindness, excellence, integrity, and respect — as students cheered each other on and pushed themselves to do their best.
For the first time ever, we had a tie for 1st place in the house competition! Congratulations to both Grant and Gibb Houses, who shared the most points on the day and are officially declared our House Winners for 2025. This marks Grant House's fourth consecutive win — an incredible achievement!
Here are the final house points:
House | Points | |
Equal 1st | Grant Gibb | 138 138 |
3rd | Petty | 108 |
4th | Sharp | 78 |
A huge thank you goes to our House Captains, who arrived early to help set up the oval. Their leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm continue to inspire all of us. I’d also like to extend my gratitude to my colleagues for their ongoing support, as well as to our wonderful parent community and helpers who volunteered as walkers, finish-line officials, and marshals out on the course. Without your help, events like this simply couldn’t happen — thank you for your time and support!
Looking ahead, the Ringwood District Cross Country will take place on Tuesday, May 20th at Quambee Reserve, starting at 9:30am. Our P.O.P.S Cross Country team will train next Tuesday at lunchtime and next Friday morning at 8:30am on the running track. More details will follow.
Once again, congratulations to all our participants, and I look forward to seeing our top athletes represent us at the District level!
