Principal's Address

New Staff
I would like to welcome 2 new staff members to our school this term.
Ms Claire Snyders is our new Instructional Leader, filling the role vacated by Ms Trudy Mahoney as she became the substantive Deputy Principal.
Claire joins us from Broken Hill and has a plethora of teaching experience across Australia and New Zealand. Ms Snyders is an expert in Literacy and Numeracy and is currently completing her master’s in educational leadership. She is Primary trained and keen to apply her skills with staff K-12.
Miss Laura Williams joins us as the new substantive School Psychologist / Counsellor. She is filling the role after Sorubi’s departure back to Sydney. This is first school she has worked in, so she is busily being inducted into both the school and the Department of Education.
Laura will work onsite at Boorowa Central School 2 days a week and assist the students with face-to-face counselling, completion of behavioural and cognitive assessments as well as providing expert support in our Learning and Support meetings.
Kick Start Kindy and Year 7 Orientation
Tuesday 6 May was a busy day here at the Central School. We welcomed our perspective 2026 Kindergarten students with a Stay and Play and parent information session whilst hosted a Year 7 2026 Information night that evening. Both occasions were very well attended and included much excitement about starting school at Boorowa Central School in 2026.
If you are interested in our school but missed the passport tours and information sessions, please contact the school and arrange a time to meet with me. I am only too happy to show you around our great school.

Thanks to the Community Bank of Boorowa and the Boorowa Central P and C
Firstly, a special thank you is to be extended to the Community Bank of Boorowa and the P and C.
The P and C lodged a sponsorship proposal with the bank, for a full set of Soccer Jerseys, shorts and socks as well as a full set of Rugby League Jerseys, shorts and socks. The proposal also included the sponsorship of some size inclusive jerseys in secondary. Much to the delight of the P and C and Boorowa Central School, the Community Bank of Boorowa agreed to sponsor the purchase of all the above items.
The soccer ‘kit’ was worn by over 30 students at the soccer gala day in Young last Friday and it was commented by many parents from our school and others, just how good our students looked. The football ‘kit’ will be worn for the upcoming Mortimer Shield competition.
Our school is very grateful for the support they receive from the P and C, the Community Bank and its many members who make sponsorship’s such as this one achievable.
Students crossing the road at drop-off and pick up
Three years ago Boorowa Central School collaborated with the Hilltops Council to improve road safety for students, parents and staff on Pudman Street. The council removed the old crossing and installed what we now have, which is called a Wombat Crossing. This crossing is a much safer method of crossing the street and includes a paid crossing guard, whose responsibility is the safe crossing of the road for all students, their parents and community members.
Please support Boorowa Central School in its endeavours to maintain road safety by taking your children across the wombat crossing at drop-off and pick-up.
Alternatively, if you wish to remain on the far side of the street, please encourage your children to use the wombat crossing and refrain from beckoning them across the road.
A slight detour of 30 seconds can prevent a serious accident or save a life.
Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Modelling of appropriate behaviour when at school events
At Boorowa Central School, students are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities that are curriculum based or an addition to what is happening in the classroom. These activities are school events and as such, can be attended by parents and community members. We love seeing our parents at these events, to support their children, and to lend a hand.
Events and excursions take many hours of behind-the-scenes administration by teaching staff, on top of their teaching role, and they choose to do this so the children can have additional experiences when at school.
To support these events, Boorowa Central School asks parents who attend these events to model appropriate behaviours and language. Encourage your children to participate with sportsmanship, support the teacher and staff with equipment and share a positive attitude. These little additions go a long way toward ensuring all students, staff and parents have an enjoyable event.
Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Week 5 – 8 changes
Ms Mahoney is taking leave for weeks 5, 6 and 7 to enjoy an overseas trip with family.
To accommodate this change, Ms McIntosh will be stepping into the Deputy Principal’s position and Mr Rowley will be teaching 5/6. An EOI process is currently underway to determine the relieving Assistant Principal of Primary during this time.
Gratitude to Supporters of the School
I would like to finish my article this week by thanking some of the many individuals and organisations who support the school in a variety of ways. We are very fortunate to have many supporters.
Kayne Trotter of Ekstensive Electrical. He has been financially supporting our school’s breakfast club for more than 2 years, ensuring no student starts their day hungry.
Lions Club of Boorowa. Lions have provided funding to support the purchase of gear for the show team.
Rapid Relief Team - Young Branch. Jayden Ferguson and his team provide Rapid Relief Food Buckets to our school. These are used to help families experiencing financial pressure to ensure they do not go hungry between pay checks. The Rapid Relief Team have collaborated with the school for over 2 years.
Rotary Club of Boorowa. Rotary pay yearly subscriptions on behalf of the school for the software platforms Nearpod and e-Library. Nearpod enhances the teaching and learning in the classroom and e-Library provides greater student and staff access to library books and resources. Rotary has also recently provided funding to support the purchase of gear for the show team.
St John the Baptist Anglican Church. Members of this congregation send the school IGA vouchers so that we can get them to families in need. Much the same as the Food Buckets, the vouchers are used to help families with financial pressure to ensure they do not go hungry between pay checks. This partnership has been in place for more than 5 years.
Yass Rotary for the distribution of the Glenlothian Education Foundation. This grant is used to support individual students access excursions, uniforms and other school related costs. This is the 2nd year of their support.
