BHS Cross Country Carnival

On Monday 5th May Ballarat High School held out annual Cross Country Carnival.  

Congratulations to all students who participated and those who won age group championships:

SSV Eureka Track & Field Carnival

On Tuesday 29th April BHS took over 100 students to the SSV Eureka Division Track & Field Carnival at Llanberris Reserve. The competition provided plenty of opportunities for students to compete in both running and field events.

 

The school had a fantastic day out taking the overall win with 1460 points, 664 points ahead of Phoenix College who finished in second place. It’s the 16th straight year that BHS has won this competition.

 

The school also had the following students win age group champion:

SSV State Swimming Championships

On Thursday 1st May BHS had 6 students attend the SSV State Swimming Championship.

 

It was an amazing day out for the BHS team who finished 10th (8th public school) out of 91 competing schools!  Our medal winners:

SSV Eureka Senior, Intermediate & Junior Girls Football

BHS entered Senior, Intermediate & Junior Girls Football teams into the SSV Eureka Girls Football competition, with our teams winning  2 of the 3 divisions. All teams were coached by Demi Thompson and Rob Simmonds.

 

The Senior Girls won their 2 matches against Daylesford College (35pts to 0pts) and  Mount Clear College (40pts to 1pt).  

 

The Intermediate Girls won their one match against Beaufort Secondary College.

 

The Junior Girls were runners up following their game with Mount Clear College.

 

The Senior & Intermediate teams  qualify for the SSV Greater Western Region event

SSV Eureka Senior, Intermediate & Junior Boys Netball

 

BHS also entered  Senior, Intermediate, Year 8 & Year 7 Netball teams into the SSV Eureka Boys Netball competition held at Ballarat Netball Association (Llanberis Netball Centre).

 

The Senior Boys had 3 matches against Mount Clear College (21 goals to 3 goals), SEDA College (16 goals to 7 goals) and Woodmans Hill Secondary College (25 goals to 1 goals). In the Grand Final the team had a rematch with SEDA College,  winning the match 20 goals to 3 goals to be crowned the 2025 champions.

 

The Intermediate Boys had 4 matches against Mount Rowan Secondary College (11 goals to 7 goals), Woodmans Hill Secondary College (15 goals to 0 goals), Beaufort Secondary College (12 goals to 5 goals) and Mount Clear College (7 goals to 11 goals). In the Grand Final they met Beaufort Secondary College but were unfortunately runners up on the day.    

 

The Year 8 Boys had 3 matches against Mt Rowan Secondary College (16 goals to 1 goal), Woodmans Hill Secondary College (14 goals to 0 goals) and Beaufort Secondary College (12 goals to 5 goals). Meeting Mt Rowan again in the Grand Final the team won the match 14 goals to 0 goals.

 

The Year 7 Boys had 2 matches against Woodmans Hill Secondary College (17 goals to 7 goals) and Mount Rowan Secondary College (22 goals to 8 goals). In the Grand Final the team had a rematch with Mount Rowan Secondary College, narrowly securing the victory 17 goals to 15 goals.  The school also had 4 students who umpired at the event.

 

The Senior, Year 8 & Year 7 teams have now qualified for the SSV Greater Western Region Boys competition.

SSV Eureka Cross Country Carnival

BHS hosted the SSV Eureka Cross Country on the new and improved BHS Cross Country Course. The weather was fantastic which made for a great day of cross country running!

 

The SSV Eureka Primary Cross Country event was held in the morning with the BHS Year 9 Specialist Sport class helping run the competition. Primary coordinator Claire Morris was full of praise for the students help on the day.

 

In the afternoon, the secondary schools participated and BHS students produced amazing results with 48 students finishing in the top 15 of their age group to qualify for the SSV Greater Western Region Cross Country. BHS also won 5 out the 10 age group team results (3 highest placed runners).

SSV Eureka Senior Boys Football

The BHS Senior Boys Football team participated in the SSV Eureka Senior Boys Football competition.

 

The Senior Boys played matches against Phoenix Secondary College (46pts to 12pts) and Beaufort Secondary College (54pts to 1pt).   The team won the semi final against Daylesford Secondary College( 65pts to 1pt) victory,  qualifying them for the Grand Final against Phoenix Secondary College. Our team won convincingly by 81pts. The school also had two students involved in the central umpiring for the competition. The Senior Boys team  now qualify for the SSV Greater Western Region Senior Boys Football event.

SSV Eureka Senior Girls Netball

BHS also entered the Senior Girls Netball team into the SSV Eureka Senior Girls Netball competition held at Ballarat Netball Association (Llanberis Netball Centre).

 

The Senior Girls had 8 matches against Mount Clear College (28 goals to 1 goal), Phoenix Secondary College A (22 goals to 3 goals), Beaufort Secondary College (27 goals to 3 goals), Daylesford Secondary College (21 goals to 5 goals), Woodmans Hill Secondary College (22 goals to 2 goals), SEDA College (11 goals to 7 goals), Mount Rowan Secondary College (24 goals to 5 goals) and Phoenix Secondary College B (25 goals to 3 goals). 

 

BHS were undefeated for the competition and were declared the 2025 Eureka Division champions. The school also had 5 students umpire on the day. The Senior Girls team  now qualify for the SSV Greater Western Region Senior Girls Netball event

U/18 Nationals Basketball Championships

Congratulations to Year 11 student Floyd Brooks who was part of the Vic Country Basketball Team who won the U/18 National Basketball Championships held in Queensland over the school holiday break.

 

BHS staff member Lydia Anderson was also a development coach for the U/18 Girls team who finished the competition in 4th place.

Stawell Gift

Congratulations to several of our current and past students who competed in the 143rd running of the Stawell Gift, Australia’s richest foot race.

 

Patrick Martin (2020) made the final of the 120m handicap race, finishing in 4th place with a time of 12.149. 

 

The following past and present students also competed .

  • Allira May (2024) – 3rd place in heat of the Change Our Game Women’s 70m Handicap (8.720)

  • Chloe Kinnersly (2022) – 7th place in heat of the Stawell Athletic Club Jack Donaldson Handicap (23.447)

  • Jack Kinnersly (Year 10) – 2nd place in the Deakin University Under 18 400m Handicap Final (46.529)
