Alumni Visits Leadership Camp

The Alumni Program recently welcomed back Daniel Maloney, former Mayor of Ballarat, to chat to our Leadership Conference students about his leadership journey. With sincerity, vulnerability and pride, Daniel shared his personal leadership journey, including triumphs and challenges and encouraged the students to lead with kindness, courage and a commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive school community.
The Leadership Conference is aimed at Year 11 students striving to be school leaders in 2026 with the theme this year being 'Diversity'.
A proud member of three generations to attend BHS, Daniel graduated in 1993, following in his mother’s footsteps, with his own children recent graduates. As the first openly LGBTIQA+ City of Ballarat Councillor and Mayor, Daniel was instrumental in launching Ballarat’s first LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee and Action Plan.
It was an absolute pleasure to have Daniel return and we thank him wholeheartedly for his time and willingness to give back and for inspiring our future leaders.
