Resource Library News

EDUCATION WEEK IN THE LIBRARY
The College Resource Library was a hive of activity throughout Education Week, celebrating the theme Celebration of Cultures . Students from Prep to Year 9 participated in a range of engaging activities, including National Simultaneous Storytime featuring Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel. Library sessions were filled with excitement as students created truck origami, joined in with collaborative Makerspace and Creators Club crafts, and explored cultural stories through our Celebration of Cultures book display. Highlights included the First Nations Show and Tell videos with Jess Stines , Story Stones and Discussion Dice literacy games, and interactive storytelling sessions. It was wonderful to see students connecting with books, each other, and a celebration of diverse voices throughout the week.
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
Last week, the College Resource Library proudly celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime with a week full of storytelling, creativity, and connection. This year’s featured book, Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel, inspired a wide range of activities for students across the school — with a sneak preview at this year’s Prep Information Evening.
From truck origami and jigsaw challenges to Truck Cat colouring and craft sessions, students from Prep to Year 9 engaged deeply with the story during their library classes. On Wednesday 21 May, we joined schools and libraries across the country in reading the book aloud together, marking the official NSS moment. At lunchtime, our Creators Club brought the story to life with a “Tinka the Cat” craft session. This event was a fantastic opportunity to foster a love of reading, spark imagination, and bring our school community together through shared storytelling.

LIBRARY CLASS HIGHLIGHTS
The College Resource Library would like to continue our highlight series, which recognises some fantastic library borrowing classes and students throughout the term. Today we acknowledge 5/6B for getting the most out of their library time and always acting in a respectful manner. Well done✨
SLAV GV MEETING
Last month, Kyabram P–12 College proudly hosted the first face-to-face meeting of the School Library Association of Victoria (SLAV) Goulburn Valley (GV) Branch—a professional network that brings together school library staff from across the region to connect, collaborate, and engage in professional development. As one of two school libraries currently sharing the coordination role for the GV Branch, we were thrilled to welcome attendees and lead this valuable opportunity for growth. The evening was a great success, filled with enriching discussions, professional learning, and collaborative brainstorming that strengthened our shared understanding of the evolving role of school libraries in education. We’re excited to be part of such a passionate and forward-thinking community and look forward to continuing these meaningful professional development opportunities throughout the year.
Many thanks,
The Library Team: Jen, Karen, Meg.
