Sacramental Preparation - Confirmation and Eucharist

We pray for the students in grade three and above who have commenced their preparation to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. This is a very special time in their spiritual development. We pray that this is a time of growth in understanding of the love our God has for each of them.

The Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist will be celebrated on the 7th and 8th of June, and the 14th and 15th of June.

Sunday Gospel - John 13:31-33a,34-35

When Judas had left them, Jesus said,

“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and God will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little while longer.

I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples,if you have love for one another.”

Reflection

This is what God asks of us, to love one another as Jesus has loved us.

Jesus made it very clear the type of Church he wants from his followers, a church of love. A community of people who loved all as he loved us. How far we as a Christian community have fallen from this commandment at times, yet, he continually calls us to love anew, to keep working at it, to accept the mercy and love Jesus offers us and then to offer it to all.

Jesus loved all, regardless of race, gender, wealth, sexuality and religion. As Christians, followers of Christ, we are to love all people, including those we find it the most difficult to love.

Let us remember that Jesus loved us so much that he died for us, let our love be a love of such strength and motivation that it moves us to action - the actions of love in our world.
