Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,
Thank you to those who were able to attend the Mother's Day Breakfast in the PAC. It was great to see many families up early enjoying breakfast together and I hope that all mothers, grandmothers and other special people had a lovely Sunday on the weekend.
We held our first storytime session for Kindergarten aged students this week. We have three sessions of Ready Prep Go to provide opportunities for future Preps of 2026 to experience Primary Years at Hazel Glen College. If you know of anyone looking for a school for next year or who would like to attend the sessions, please contact the office. Our enrolments are open now. We take pride in having single classrooms and prioritise class sizes to ensure a nurturing learning environment. We also had a meet and greet last week at the Hazel Glen College Kinder where we met many families some existing and some new that we hope to welcome to our College community next year.
Next week, is Education Week. This year’s theme, “Celebration of Cultures,” highlights the rich diversity within our communities and the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment for every child. On Wednesday, 21st May 2025 during Session 1, families are welcome to visit classrooms and participate in learning. Please note that specialist classes will continue as scheduled during this time.
Following the open morning, families are invited to join us for a morning tea in the new PY Learning Lab with a special performance from our Primary Years choir.
Today we thank our Education Support staff members. We have many Education Support staff in a wide variety of roles ranging from student support, administration and maintenance. Education Support staff play a crucial role in supporting students and staff and the overall functioning of the school.
We are noticing that students are continuing to commute to school on E-Scooters (Electric Scooters) and these are being kept in the bike shed. Please note that these are not permitted to be at school and if your child brings one, you will be contacted to come and collect it from the office and to make alternative arrangements for your child to commute home. Please ensure you know the laws around using power-assisted bicycles and scooters (e-bikes, e-scooters), i.e. you must wear a helmet and be 16 years old or older. Further information can be found on the VicRoads website.
We have welcomed Ms Rachel Delaney who will teach 3A whilst Ms Ashleigh Dent is on leave. Ms Emily Thompson has stepped into the team leader role for Year 3. Please reach out to either of them if you have any questions regarding your child.
We wish our Year 6s well with their round of Interschool Sport today as they represent the College in the school competition.
