Week 4, Term 2
Prep
Students will be looking at Aussie artist Laura Blythman and her collage techniques. They will be painting papers to make into a Winter Hills artwork next week.
Grade 1
Students will be creating a hybrid animal using three animals from the story Backyard Beasties by Helen Milroy. They will focus on the shapes that make up each animal and choose elements to combine and create their own unique creature!
Grade 2
Students will be practising drawing the features of a koala face before painting it, focussing on proportion, shade and tone.
Grade 3 and 4
Students will be focussing on Australian artist Howard Arkley, particularly his works on suburban house façades in Oakleigh. They will trace a house on their iPads before using oil pastels and rubbing boards to create patterns in different sections of the image.
Grade 5
Students will be choosing an Australian animal face that has been cut in half, and using a grid technique they will draw the other half of the animal including shading, texture and symmetry.
Grade 6
Students will be researching a notable Australian person and printing a black and white photo of them ‘in action’, eg. skateboarding, singing, cooking etc. They will cut it out and attach it to cardboard before planning out some stitching details to enhance the image and add texture and colour.
Prep
Students are continuing to learn about First Nations music, including learning about the Yidaki (didgeridoo) and clapping sticks. They will learn songs in several First Nations languages and explore beat patterns using instruments and body percussion.
Grade 1
Students are practicing their listening skills by drawing pitch maps based on what they hear. They will also find inspiration for pitch compositions in the playground, using annotation tools on their iPad to create pitch maps on a photo.
Grade 2
Students will continue to develop their skills in performing two note melodies on tuned percussion instruments. They will work with alternating left/right hand patterns when using beaters.
Grade 3 and 4
Students are continuing to develop their skill in performing syncopated rhythm patterns. They will also continue to build their understanding of 'feel' in music as they explore 'Calypso' through singing and playing.
Grade 5 and 6
Students are continuing with their songwriting project. This week they will work on finding inspiration for their song and developing their songs ideas and style.
Prep
Prep students will continue to explore the signs for numbers by playing games and following simple instructions in Auslan. They will also strengthen this knowledge by learning the signs for the song ‘Five Little Monkeys’
Grade 1 and 2
Grade 1 and 2 students will expand their knowledge of animal signs through learning the signs for various sea creatures. They will consolidate this knowledge by playing a game of bingo.
Grade 3 and 4
Grade 3 and 4 students will consolidate their knowledge of shape and location signs. Students will use this knowledge to sign basic instructions in Auslan to a partner to re-create a simple picture.
Grade 5 and 6
Grade 5 and 6 students will continue to consolidate their knowledge and application of signs that describe people by playing celebrity heads and creating a ‘Who Am I?’ presentation for a partner.
