Year Four

We are well on our way into Autumn, and nearing the Winter chills! Let's remember to layer up on those colder days with correct uniform.
Literacy
The year 4s have embarked on their exciting journey into Book Club, with students having selected a book of preference and meeting their group peers. The students have thoughtfully worked on agreements and have remembered to include some crucial points such as collaboration and dedication towards each other and their targets. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to be actively involved in deep discussions about the characters and events in the texts they are reading, how they develop and unfold. A great way to keep your child engaged, is to ask questions about what they have read so far, and what they think might happen next!
As the students work on Organisation as a writing trait, they are developing their skills to create engaging leads for non-fiction texts, use sequence and transition words to connect their ideas, develop the body of their topic and end with a sense of resolution. Students have practised these skills and are now applying this knowledge to write information texts that are well structured and provide their audience with information that is clear and organised.
Mathematics
Students have been thinkers and risk-takers by reviewing additive thinking strategies. They have practised and consolidated the 'jump' strategy and the 'split' strategy both adding and subtracting double digit and triple digit values. The year 4s are also committed to achieving their personal goals and have been accessing My Numeracy to accomplish these.
Inquiry
As we delve deeper into our inquiry - distribution of finite resources may affect relationships, students began to unpack the differences between renewable and non-renewable resources. Discussions centred around how overuse or unequal distribution of these resources can lead to conflict, imbalance, and environmental strain.
Grade 4 also developed a deeper understanding of key terms tied to the inquiry, various tiered language and connected their learning to real-world issues.
As part of our inquiry, Grade 4 explored a world map to locate countries with abundant natural resources. They identified which nations are rich in renewable resources and those with large supplies of non-renewable resources. This investigation helped students understand how the global distribution of resources can influence relationships and decision-making. Their reflections showed a growing awareness of their roles as responsible global citizens who can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.
Grade 4 Shines at the Athletics Carnival!
Our recent Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day of energy, effort and enthusiasm as Grade 4 participated in a range of events including high jump, discus, hurdles, sprints, shot put, and triple jump to name but a few. More than just a day of sport, the carnival gave our students the chance to be risk-takers as they tackled unfamiliar events, balanced as they showed both physical skill and sportsmanship, and caring as they encouraged and supported their peers. Grade 4 reflected on their personal goals and celebrated not just winning but participation and improvement.
The Athletics Carnival reminded us all of the importance of resilience, community and having fun while staying active. Well done, Grade 4 — you showed determination, courage and incredible team spirit!
