Year Three

This past week has been full of excitement, energy, and unforgettable experiences! From exploring incredible art and culture at the NGV to showing off our school spirit and athletic talents on Athletics Day, it’s been a time of learning, teamwork, and fun. Whether we were racing down the track or admiring world-famous artworks, everyone gave their best and made the most of each moment. Here's a look back at the highlights of our amazing week!

Reading:

In Reading, students learned the skill of making connections. They explored how to form meaningful links to other texts, their personal experiences, and the wider world. We also participated in Reader’s Theatre, where students practised using vocal expression to reflect their character’s personality and emotions. One student shared, “I made my voice high and fast for the Gingerbread Man because he’s always running away!” – a great example of how students are developing their confidence in reading aloud.

Numeracy:

This week in Numeracy, we have been deepening our understanding of place value. Students have been learning to represent numbers in a variety of ways and to build and interpret 4-digit numbers based on their knowledge of thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. To support this learning, we’ve been using MAB (Multibase Arithmetic Blocks) to physically construct numbers, helping students make concrete connections to abstract concepts.

Unit of Inquiry:

Our visit to the NGV and the Royal Botanic Gardens helped us explore how artists and nature use patterns in beautiful and inspiring ways. At the gallery, we looked at how artists use shapes, colours, and textures. In the gardens, we found patterns in leaves, flowers, and trees. These experiences will inspire our upcoming art projects, where students will create their own nature-inspired artwork. It was a week full of wonder, creativity, and connection to our natural world!

Additionally, our school day begins at 8:30am, with classroom doors opening at 8:20am. This early access allows students time to settle in and prepare for their learning. This is a crucial time of the day that prepares students for a successful and engaging day.

If a student arrives after 8:40am, they must sign in at the school office and obtain a late pass. This helps us maintain accurate attendance records and minimise classroom disruption.
