Principal's message

St Monica's is a child-safe school.

We promote the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all students.

Welcome back

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope the Easter break was a time of rest, renewal, and special moments with loved ones.

It has been wonderful to see the energy and excitement as students return to school, ready for another term of learning, growth, and connection. Term 2 is always a rich and busy time in the life of our school, with many opportunities ahead—both in the classroom and beyond.

The term has begun with some staffing changes, as we farewell Stephanie Knight and Kara Jury who have commenced their maternity leave. We extend our warmest wishes to both Steph and Kara as they prepare to welcome their new arrivals, and we look forward to hearing their joyful news in the weeks (and days) ahead.  We also welcome Meg West who will be working in the Grade 2 area this term.

Wishing everyone a joyful and productive term ahead!

Enrolments Open

We’re pleased to announce that enrolments for Foundation and all year levels in 2026 are now open at St Monica’s Primary School, Kangaroo Flat.

At St Monica’s, we offer a welcoming, inclusive, and faith-based learning environment where every child is known, supported, and encouraged to thrive. We invite prospective families to come and experience the difference for themselves.

Please see our Facebook page for further details.

Staff Professional Development Days

This term, our staff had the valuable opportunity to engage in professional learning with Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath, a renowned cognitive neuroscientist and educator, focusing on the Science of Learning. Jared shared practical, research-based insights into how the brain learns best, and how we can translate that knowledge into meaningful classroom practice.

Through this session, staff explored strategies to enhance memory retention, build student engagement, and deepen understanding—helping us continue to grow as reflective, evidence-informed educators. It was an inspiring and energising session that affirmed our commitment to continually improving learning outcomes for every student.

Pope Francis

As a proud Catholic school community, we join with the Church and people around the world in mourning the death of Pope Francis, who passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.

Pope Francis will be remembered as a shepherd who led with compassion, humility, and deep faith. Throughout his papacy, he consistently championed the dignity of every person, spoke out for the marginalised, and called the Church to be one of mercy, service, and inclusion.

His commitment to social justice, care for creation, and reform within the Church inspired millions—both Catholic and non-Catholic alike. He reminded us, in word and action, of the Gospel call to love, serve, and walk humbly with God.

As a Catholic school, we reflect with gratitude on the legacy Pope Francis leaves behind and recommit ourselves to nurturing a school environment shaped by the values he so deeply embodied: kindness, justice, courage, and faith.

Commemorating ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day is more than a date on the calendar — it’s a moment for all Australians to stop, reflect, and remember. It calls us to honour those who stepped forward in times of conflict, not for recognition, but out of a deep sense of duty to something greater than themselves.

Last Friday, we remembered not only the fallen, but also those who returned carrying the lasting weight of war, and those who continue to serve in defence of peace and freedom. Their stories shape our national identity and remind us of the values we hold close: courage, sacrifice, endurance, and mateship.

In a time where our world faces new challenges, the ANZAC legacy continues to inspire strength and unity. Whether we gather as a community or reflect in silence, we are connected by a shared respect for those who gave so much.

Lest we forget
