Year Two - Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

This week our students had an enjoyable time learning about number lines. They discovered the importance of using benchmark numbers to help identify a specific number on the number line.  Students focused on using language such as greater than, less than, decades and between. Here is an example of one of the activities they did during Mathematics.

Our students also know the importance of reviewing mathematical concepts every day and are keen to participate in the Daily Review session.

Within Religious Education, students learnt about Mary, Jesus' mother,  and drew what they believed she looked like and some facts about her life.

Students worked hard on creating a retell of the story, 'One Photo' and using the time connectives of first, then, next and finally. They have also been introduced to a new reading strategy of 'Think Aloud' to improve understanding of read texts.

Students were very excited to begin learning how to touch type through the program, 'Nessy Typing'. They will undertake this on a regular basis over the year. This is in preparation for them moving into Year 3 in 2026.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education: Students will unpack the important role of Mary within Jesus' life and how these messages can be used in our lives.

Mathematics: We will again focus on number lines but with a higher number range.

English: To celebrate the approaching Mother's/Special Persons Day, students will be reading, 'Happy Mother's Day from the Crayons', and will be undertaking a special writing activity which is currently 'Top Secret!'

Auslan:  We will be learning signs for different learning subjects and putting them into short sentences.

Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR:  Personal and Cultural Strengths will continue to be a focus as students identify their own strengths such as kind, fair, honest, patient etc.
