Supporting Student Voice and Child Safety at Our School
At St Thomas the Apostle, student voice is a vital part of how we build a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment. We believe students should be heard, involved, and empowered—especially when it comes to their own wellbeing and safety.
This term, we are working closely with our students to review the child-friendly version of our Child Safe Policy. This document is designed to help students understand their rights and what they can expect from the adults around them to keep them safe. By inviting feedback and discussing the policy in age-appropriate ways, we aim to ensure every child knows:
These conversations are part of a broader commitment to the Child Safe Standards, which place strong emphasis on involving children in decisions that affect them. Whether through class discussions, student leadership groups, or informal check-ins, we value students’ perspectives on how our school can continue to be a safe and supportive place for everyone.
We encourage families to talk with their children about what they’re learning and discussing at school around safety and their rights. Working in partnership with families is another way we help make our school a place where every child can thrive.
