Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families, 

This week, we welcomed student's back for their first full week of school. It was brilliant to see them transition back into term to so smoothy. Next week, students commence swimming with classes participating in lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

This week we learnt about...

Religious Education Focus:

This week students learnt about Pope Francis and the impact that he had on the catholic faith. They also completed their pre assessment on Pentecost, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and Confirmation.

English Focus: 

Reading:  

Our students' continued their grammar focus on the use of prepositions and adverbials. They continued to practice their reading fluency and summarising.

Writing:  

Students began their novel study of Us Mob Walawurru, our students learnt some background information about Indigenous Australian culture. In their sentence-level writing, they focused on sentence expansion. This add more detail to our writing and makes it more interesting for the reader.

Mathematics Focus: 

This week, students continued their fractions unit by placing fractions on a number line and looking at how to compare fractions by using a fraction wall and shapes. The looked at identifying which fractions were greater than and less than a half.

Integrated Studies Focus

 Students were introduced to the concept of democracy and how it works in Australia. They explored key ideas such as fairness, voting, and having a voice. Through hands-on activities, students took on the role of decision-makers and began to understand what it means to be active citizens.

Social & Emotional Learning Focus

Students explored their personal strengths and how these can be used to support themselves and others. They also began learning about Self Talk—the way we speak to ourselves—and how it can affect our confidence and mindset, especially during challenges.
