Learning News

K/1
Over the past two weeks in our K/1 classroom, we have been exploring the concepts of time and whole numbers through a range of engaging and hands-on activities. In our learning time, students have been identifying parts of the day (morning, afternoon and evening) and discussing daily routines. We have also begun reading o’clock times on analogue clocks, with students practising through games and classroom schedules.
We have also been focusing on whole numbers, developing our skills in counting, recognising, and representing numbers. Students have been working with numbers up to 20 (and beyond for some!), using concrete materials, number lines, and interactive activities to support their understanding. We have also explored concepts such as more and less, ordering numbers, and forming numbers in different ways.
It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence and enthusiasm as they build their understanding in both of these areas!

Year 2/3
Last week, our Year 2/3 M and 2/3C moved onto the fun stuff: they started learning all about grid references by working with a simple grid! We went beyond just saying "it was behind the chair" and began using a basic coordinate system. We learned to use a letter and a number together (like finding B2 on a map) to pinpoint a specific location. It was a great way to show how to read real-world maps, and everyone did an awesome job of mastering this tricky skill!

Year 4
Year 4 have been stretching their brains over the last few weeks in their Mathematics lessons. We started with exploring the place value of large numbers and then moved on to learning a variety of strategies to assist with the addition of larger numbers. We have revisited some old strategies that many of our class are now using as mental computations as well as learnt some new strategies. Some of these include partitioning (or splitting numbers into smaller chunks to make them easier to add together), multiples of ten (where students use their well known friends of ten knowledge to add to decades), empty number lines, rounding to help check answers and a brand new strategy - vertical addition.
We hope you enjoy the work samples the students have produced.
Keep up the good work Year 4!

5/6
Our Year 5 and 6 students have been diving deep into the world of fractions this week! They're learning how to represent quantities as fractions, discovering that fractions are more than just numbers on a page—they're a practical way to describe parts of a whole. Through hands-on activities and visual models, students are exploring how to divide objects and groups into equal parts, identify fractional amounts, and compare different fractions. This foundational understanding helps them see fractions in everyday situations, from sharing pizza slices to measuring ingredients in recipes.
