Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:
Respectful Relationships at Spring Gully Primary School is a highly valued program where the students learn how to be ‘Respectful’, ‘Resilient’ and ‘Responsible’. This not only reflects our School Values but teaches our students how to ‘Be Awesome’, which is our school motto.
In this newsletter space, we will keep you up to date with what is going on with Respectful Relationships, in each classroom.
This week in Prep Mortlock, we introduced the topic “Personal and Cultural Strengths.” During this lesson, we focused on developing listening skills and teamwork. Students participated in an activity where they had to copy the teacher’s actions, even though the actions did not match the spoken instructions. This challenged them to use careful listening to follow directions accurately.
We then played the “Magpie Game,” where students worked in pairs to follow instructions and collaborate effectively. They were required to locate objects around the room while staying connected to their partner at all times.
After the activities, we reflected on the importance of strong listening skills and teamwork, and how these strengths help us work successfully with others.
This past fortnight, students at SGPS have continued an awesome display of our School Values - demonstrating Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience within their classrooms and the school yard. Resilience in particular has been on full display, the last few weeks with many changes to our normal schedules, due to NAPLAN. Many of our classes have already earned whole-class rewards- class parties being a particular favourite amongst the cohort!
Our Gugu canteen continues to be extremely popular, with students cashing in 10 stickers for treats from our canteen selection (fundraised for from our cohort). Cans of Solo have been the most sought after! We have sold out twice!
We are getting very close to achieving our Level 1 Whole School Reward. (Movie and popcorn).
Last week, we held our first full meeting of the 2026 School Representative Council.
It was wonderful to see our junior members participate with such positivity and enthusiasm, despite their nerves. We are so proud of the way they embraced this opportunity.
A big congratulations to our senior members for showing kindness and leadership, helping our junior representatives feel welcome and supported.
During the meeting, we discussed an exciting fundraising opportunity that the SRC is very enthusiastic about.
In the final week of term, the SRC will be hosting a “Pop-Up Shop” before and after school. Students will be selling Eula Banana Magic Clay kits, along with a range of craft accessories.
Eula, a former Spring Gully student, has kindly offered us the opportunity to sell her products to help raise funds for our school.
The shop will be located near the office and open at the following times:
- Monday to Thursday: 8:30–8:45am
- Monday to Wednesday: 3:15–3:30pm
These will make eggcellent Easter gifts!
Harmony Week (16th March - 22nd March, 2026)
This week we are acknowledging Australia’s Harmony Week celebrations, by recognising cultural diversity, inclusiveness and respect - the theme for 2026 is ‘Everyone Belongs’. Classroom teachers have been discussing and celebrating Harmony Week during Morning Circles and throughout the week throughout their lessons. Students have also participated in a special Art session, with work created in the classroom and put together into a massive collaborative artwork in the Junior Foyer. Be sure to pop your head in and check out the artwork next time you’re at school.
Premiers' Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and SGPS is excited to be taking part! Individual logins and passwords will be coming home within the next week.
This year’s Challenge theme is ‘Stories to discover. Stories to tell’. Stories can inspire and challenge us, and help us grow. They open our eyes to new worlds and new ways of thinking.
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 and aims to help young readers develop a lifelong love of reading.
It is not a competition; it is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 4 September 2026. The number of books read can be varied for everyone's needs.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement.
