Dear Grade 5/6 Families,
It has been a busy and productive time in the Years 5/6 area, with students showing great resilience, teamwork and enthusiasm across a range of activities.
NAPLAN
Our Grade 5 students recently completed their NAPLAN assessments. We are incredibly proud of the calm and positive attitude they showed throughout the testing period. Students approached the assessments with focus and persistence, and it was wonderful to see them supporting one another along the way. Well done to all of our Grade 5 students for their efforts.
School Photos
School photo day has also taken place and students did a fantastic job remembering their best smiles and representing the school proudly. The day was very interrupted, so once again our students showed how resilient they can be. We look forward to seeing the finished photos soon!
Cross Country
We are excited for our upcoming Cross Country event, which will take place on the last Monday of term. Cross Country is always a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves, support their peers and celebrate participation. The 5/6’s will begin their run at approximately 12:15, leaving from the soccer oval.
Celebrating Neurodiversity, International Women’s Day and Harmony Day
This week we have been learning about neurodiversity and recognising that everyone’s brain works in different and unique ways. These discussions have helped students develop greater empathy, understanding and appreciation for the strengths that diversity brings to our classrooms.
Tomorrow we will be celebrating Harmony Day, which is a time for our school community to recognise and celebrate cultural diversity. Students will be participating in activities that highlight the importance of inclusion, respect and belonging for everyone.
We have also recognised and celebrated International Women’s Day where we discussed amazing women such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Malala Yousafzai and many of us wrote or created powerful letters to women we admire.
Next fortnight’s learning:
In Mathematics we dive into Multiplication and Division which will potentially result in working with a different teacher and different peers. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people as well as learning in a safe and supportive environment that is targeted at the appropriate level.
For Literacy we delve into Persuasives texts. Our focus will be on recognising persuasive texts and being able to analyse and comprehend these texts constructively. The students will also be given opportunities to write their own persuasive texts focussing on structure and text choice.
We will finish off our current Science and Topic units as well, so please ask your child what they know about Democracy and the Science field that they focussed on.
It has been wonderful to see our students supporting each other, showing resilience and continuing to grow as learners and members of our school community.
Warm regards,
5/6 Team
