Dear Grade 3/4 Families,
We aim to keep you informed about upcoming learning, events, and important reminders as we quickly move towards the end of Term One.
Our Grade 3 students have recently completed their NAPLAN assessments, and we are very proud of their efforts. They showed determination, a positive attitude, and persistence throughout. Well done to all our Grade 3 students on being AWESOME!
School Photo Day has also occurred with students putting on their best smiles and showcasing some very creative hairstyles! It is always a wonderful way to acknowledge a new year of learning and another milestone reached in each students' SGPS journey. We look forward to seeing the developed photos soon.
We will also celebrate Neurodiversity and Harmony in our school community, recognising and valuing diversity in all its forms. Our Grade 3/4 students will take part in activities that promote inclusion, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone. It’s an opportunity to appreciate different backgrounds, support neurodiversity, and foster kindness and understanding for all.
We are looking forward to our upcoming Cross Country event, which will take place on the last Monday of term. This will be a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves, cheer on their peers and celebrate participation. The Grade 3/4 students will begin their run at approximately 12:45pm, starting from the soccer oval. We may find some new local legends!
Students have been busily exploring a range of areas within their Topic focus this term. As a way to finish off our Topic Unit, we are asking students to participate in a STEM challenge. This challenge will involve students working together to design and build a marble run. We need your help! Please take some time to search for any of the following resources listed below at home and send them in with your child over the next week:
Well done to our Week 6 Maths Challenge winners - 1/2 Edwards! Please find the new Maths Challenge below!

While NAPLAN slightly impacted our program this fortnight, students continued building skills across key areas. In Literacy, they categorised verbs and identified synonyms and antonyms during daily reviews, and explored the water cycle to support their understanding of explanation texts. In Mathematics, they developed their understanding of time and addition and subtraction through fluid groups and problem-solving sessions.
Weeks 9 and 10
In Literacy, we will be exploring persuasive texts to understand their structure and language features, helping students confidently write clear and effective persuasive texts of their own. Our phomeme focus will be f ff and ph as in fish and o as in orange and our language focus will reviewing suffixes and upgrading verbs.
In Mathematics, we will work in flexible groups and independently to develop our operation skills for multiplication and division. This will involve targeted, hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks to build students’ confidence and understanding in working with numbers. Students will also collect data from their STEM challenge to explore statistics.
