Big things ahead for Emily Nock!

After performing 17 shows in 8 days at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, playing her first “real” gig at Live at the Bundy supporting Tottie Goldsmith, and jumping on stage with Sunday Lemonade at Nowa Nowa Live, Emily has some exciting gigs coming up.

Catch her at Maffra Mardi Gras, opening for Luke O'Shea at the Stratford Courthouse, Sale Music Festival, and as the headline performer at the Maffra Show.

Emily has also started performing with a foot stomp and is excited to start using her new looping pedal after feeling inspired by seeing Ed Sheeran live.

Unit 3 Physics Excursion

Unit 3 Physics students recently attended the VicPhysics 2026 Luna Park Day, where they experienced the Physics of the Fun Park. Students explored concepts such as forces, acceleration, momentum and Newton’s Laws through the movement of the rides. Around 800 students attended on the day, with approximately 3,600 students from across Victoria taking part throughout the week.

Later, the class toured the Australian Synchrotron, where they learned how scientists use powerful light produced by electrons travelling near the speed of light to study viruses, chemical bonds and advanced materials.

Year 9 Art

Our Year 9 Art class have recently completed their Mini Meal Sculpture task. Students created and designed miniature versions of a meal using clay, focusing on the art principles of scale and proportion.

The results are incredibly creative and detailed, showcasing the students’ imagination and attention to detail.

STEAM

Our new Year 9 STEAM elective (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Maths) had students putting their skills to the test by designing and racing balsa wood CO₂ dragsters. Powered by compressed carbon dioxide, these high-speed cars reached an incredible 70 km/h!

The competition was fittingly named the Dixon Cup, in honour of the late Rob Dixon, a much-loved and long-serving member of our Science and Technology departments.

Special thanks to Lab Manager David Collins for helping get the program up and running, and for designing and building parts of the race track. And to Mr Robbins for presenting the cup.

Congratulations to Xavier Gray, the inaugural Dixon Cup winner!

VCE VM - Guest Speaker

It was fantastic to welcome back past student Joel Wegener to the College this week to speak with our VCE VM students.

Joel is the founder of Used Goods, a thriving thrift clothing business.  He shared his journey of turning a passion for sustainable fashion into a successful business. His story was really inspiring for our students as they work on developing their own VM shop.

He also spoke about his journey into real estate and the lessons he’s learned along the way, reminding students that there are many different pathways to success.

We thank Joel for coming back and giving his time. We love seeing our alumni doing great things and inspiring the next generation!

Italian Language Immersion Trip – Palermo, Italy

Lavinia Ross is a Year 10 student with a strong passion for learning foreign languages and exploring different cultures. Alongside Italian, which she has studied since Year 6, Lavinia has also studied Hawaiian, French, and Polish, demonstrating both curiosity and commitment to language learning. She is a sporty, hardworking, and family-oriented student who enjoys challenging herself and stepping outside her comfort zone.

In 2026, Lavinia will travel to Palermo, Italy, where she will spend ten months living with a host family and attending a local school. This full-immersion experience will see her using Italian every day, both in and out of the classroom, while experiencing authentic Italian culture and everyday life.

Interview with Lavinia

What made you decide to take part in a 10-month language immersion trip to Italy?

I thought it would be fun to become fluent in Italian after learning it since Year 6. I had been thinking about doing an immersion trip for about a year, and when I started researching it, I found Student Exchange, who helped me organise the experience.

What are you most excited about — and maybe a little nervous about — when it comes to living in Italy and using Italian every day?

I’m most excited about meeting Italian people and having real conversations, rather than just using specific vocabulary. I am a little nervous about making friends at school in Italy, but I know that will come with time.

How do you think this experience will help you improve your Italian and learn more about Italian culture?

Being in Italy and speaking Italian every day for ten months will really improve my speaking skills. I’m also looking forward to experiencing everyday Italian life — going to the beach, spending time with locals, and of course, enjoying the food!

Is there a particular city, tradition, or food in Italy that you’re especially looking forward to experiencing?

Honestly, I’m looking forward to everything!

What advice would you give to other students who are thinking about learning a language or travelling overseas one day?

I’d recommend using Duolingo to get started, watching TV shows and movies in Italian with English subtitles, listening to Italian music, and flicking through Italian books. For anyone considering an overseas experience like this, I’d say: just go!
