News from Visual Arts

Our Prep students have been busy creating their very first artworks, drawing their families. We looked closely at each family member and thought about important details: how tall they are, their hair colour and hairstyle, and even the clothes and shoes they wear.

Every artwork is full of personality, and it’s been wonderful to see so many happy families come to life on paper.  We are so proud of our young artists!

Performing Arts News

This week, I would like to share what Prep and Year 5/6 students have been learning in Performing Arts this term.

Year 5/6

Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about a brief history of music and how music is used in everyday life. They explored how music is not only something we listen to in the car or at home, but also plays an important role in many parts of our daily lives, such as in restaurants, events, films and television commercials.

Students also watched examples of early silent films and learned how music can help tell a story and express different emotions.

Building on what they have learned this term, students will move into a dance unit where they will explore how to express stories and emotions through movement in response to music.

Prep

Prep students have been settling well into the routines of our Performing Arts lessons. This term, they have been exploring how to move their bodies to music and creating simple rhythms using percussion instruments. They are also learning the Caulfield Primary School song (in Japanese) and the Australian National Anthem (in English).

We encourage families to sing the national anthem together at home to help students become more familiar with the lyrics.
