Learning and Teaching
Today our Year 2 students worked on developing their observation and data collection skills as part of our Mathematics learning. Our learning intention was to make observations to help us plan how to collect data.
Students went outside and stood on the bridge near the school for a few minutes to observe the cars passing by. They focused on the colour of the cars and began thinking about the different responses people might give to a survey question.
The class explored the question: “Which colour cars do we see most often near our school?”
Before collecting data, students discussed and listed possible responses such as white, black, grey or silver, blue, red, green, yellow, and other colours.
By carefully observing the cars and identifying common colours, students practised making predictions and planning how they could record their data using tallies. This activity helped students understand how observations can inform the way we design surveys and collect information.
It was wonderful to see students engaged, curious and eager to share what they noticed in the real world around them.

On Friday, 27 February, our school participated in Clean Up Australia Day. Students contributed by cleaning up rubbish in their area, tallying it up and transferring the information onto a graph.
This event began after ‘Clean Up Sydney Harbor’ (which was very successful) in 1989, and a year later, Ian Kiernan established our national clean up day. This new conservation event had about 40,000 participants, and is now widely recognised. The official Clean Up Australia Day was on Sunday, 1 March, but schools do this on the Friday before.
Overall, this day is a day to help the environment, be a conservationist, and wear a high-visibility yellow vest (me).

All students are expected to come along, to join in the fun and participate in the Track and Field Event at our Annual Twilight Sports Carnival.
There will be a sausage sizzle sale, but you also can bring you own snacks and dinner. Please remember that due to Child Safety Standards this is strictly a No Alcohol event.
We look forward to seeing you there.
