Grade 2 News

Welcome to our latest Year Level Newsletter. It’s hard to believe we are already fast approaching the school holidays, with the term moving along quickly. It has been wonderful to see how well students have settled into classroom routines and engaged positively with their learning.
Students have continued to work hard across all learning areas, showing growing confidence, independence and enthusiasm. It has been pleasing to see the effort they are putting into their learning as the term progresses.
Thank you to families who attended the recent Parent–Teacher meetings. These were valuable conversations and provided a great opportunity to discuss student progress. Your support and partnership in your child’s learning is greatly appreciated.
What We’ve Been Learning in Grade 2:
Maths: Students have continued to explore place value, strengthening their knowledge and understanding by recognising that numbers can be represented in different ways. They are becoming more aware of the patterns that exist and how these can help them determine missing numbers. Learning has also focused on locating and ordering numbers on a number line, and using partitioning as a strategy for addition.
English: Students explored the sounds /igh/, /oa/, /oo/ and /or/, developing their reading and spelling of words with these patterns. They read and discussed fairytales and tall tales, comparing the similarities and differences between these text types and are beginning to innovate on familiar story structures. Students also learnt about plurals in morphology, and in syntax focused on sentence expansion, using adverbs, and identifying nouns and adjectives to add detail to their writing.
Humanities: Students concluded their first unit on Cycles in Nature, where they explored different plant, animal and Earth cycles, such as day and night and the changing seasons. They have now begun their next unit of learning, focusing on the geography of Australia.
