Foundation News

Dear Foundation Parents/Guardians,
It’s hard to believe we are now in Week 9, with only 2 weeks left of Term 1! The students have continued to settle beautifully into their routines and are showing great growth in their learning and independence. Thank you again for your ongoing support in encouraging your child to organise themselves each morning—this is such an important life skill.
The Foundation students have been actively engaged across all learning areas.
In English (Phonics), we have been continuing our work on Sound Sets 1, 2 and 3. So far, students have been introduced to the graphemes (letters) s, a, t, p, i, n, d, m, g, o, c and k and their corresponding sounds. They have begun blending these sounds to read and spell simple words such as pat, sit, pan, and tin. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing in both reading and writing.
By now, your child should have started bringing home their black reading satchels with decodable readers. These books are designed to support your child in practising the sounds they have learned at school. We encourage daily reading to help build fluency and confidence. Please ensure that the satchel, reader, and diary are returned to school each day. The diary should include the title of the book read, parent signature each night and nights read. We are working towards an exciting goal of 100 nights of reading!
In Writing, we have completed our unit on The Very Hungry Caterpillar and have now begun exploring nursery rhymes. This week, we focused on Jack and Jill. Students have been identifying nouns and using adjectives to describe characters, building their vocabulary and sentence construction skills.
In Mathematics, we have continued exploring numbers from 0–10. Students have been practising subitising, writing numerals, one-to-one counting, and working with collections. It has been great to see them becoming more confident with these foundational number skills.
In Humanities, we have begun our new unit on The Needs of Plants and Animals. Students have been very interested in learning what plants need to survive and exploring the different parts of a plant.
Fruit Snack Reminder: As part of our daily routine, students have a fruit snack break to help maintain their energy and focus. We kindly ask that fruit is packed in a separate container rather than inside lunch boxes, as large lunch boxes can take up valuable desk space.
School Hats: A reminder that we continue to enforce a “no hat, no play” policy. Students without a hat will need to remain in designated undercover areas. Please ensure your child has a clearly named hat at school each day.
Emailing your child's teacher
If you're emailing your child’s classroom teacher, please include your child’s name in the message. It really helps us respond more quickly and accurately. Thanks so much for your support!
ICT
Soon your child will begin to use iPads. However before this can occur, you must have returned your school forms for the Technology user Agreement. We still have a number of outstanding forms that will need to be completed before the iPads can be used. Please check in with your classroom teacher to see if your forms have been signed.
Important dates:
End of Term 1: Thursday April 2nd 1:30 Finish
Start Term 2: Monday 20th April
Thank you for your continued support as we head into the final weeks of term.
Kind regards, The Foundation Team
