PE News

Dear Parents/Guardians,
It has been a fantastic and active term so far in Physical Education, with students continuing to build their skills, confidence and teamwork across a range of activities. It has been great to see such positive participation and enthusiasm during lessons.
Upcoming Cross Country:
We are looking forward to our upcoming Cross Country event for students in Years 3–6, which will be held on Monday 30th March. Students have been preparing during class time and we are excited to see them move their legs continuously, walking, jogging, perhaps even running, in a way that challenges themselves, whilst encouraging each other. Please ensure all students wear their runners on Monday 30th March, bring a water bottle, and wear a house coloured t-shirt.
Grade 5 & 6 Summer Gala Day:
We congratulate our Year 5 and 6 students on their fantastic efforts at the recent Summer Gala Day. Wimba Primary School proudly sent out Tee Ball, Volleystars, Basketball and Cricket teams to compete against local schools. Students reported enjoying the day, representing themselves and our school with integrity, and creating wonderful memories with their peers. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, especially the teachers and education support staff who generously gave their time.
Winter Gala Day will be held on Wednesday 3 June, with try outs for Netball, Softball, AFL 9s, Volleyball and Soccer beginning early in Term 2.
Clinics and Special Events:
This term, many students have taken part in extra physical activity through a range of sports clinics and special events. These sessions have allowed students to build skills, learn from experienced coaches, and connect with local clubs and positive role models. We thank Hockey Victoria, Wyndham Basketball, Netball Victoria and the Wyndham Suns for supporting our school, our students, and their pathways in physical education and community sport.
What We’re Learning:
Foundation – Year 2: Students have been focusing on developing their fundamental movement skills, particularly locomotor movements such as running, hopping and skipping. These skills are essential building blocks for future participation in sport and physical activity.
Years 3–6: Students have been exploring invasion games, with a focus on team sports including basketball, soccer and lacrosse. Through these activities, students have been developing their understanding of game play as a team, spatial awareness, tactics and effective communication.
We are incredibly proud of the effort and positive attitudes students have continued to show throughout the term. It has been wonderful to see them support one another and give everything a go.
A reminder that all students should bring a water bottle to every PE session and wear appropriate footwear to ensure they can safely participate.
Kind regards,
Ms Blamey & Mrs Percovich
