In the Classroom

English Assessments
Over the past couple of weeks is week, our students were assessed on their phonics knowledge, reading and writing and spelling skills. We are pleased to report that our students have been learning a great deal, with most demonstrating progress to be proud of.
A special shoutout to Ashton, who performed exceptionally well in his spelling assessment, and to Miley, who is reading sentences containing high-frequency words with great expression and fluency.
We are very proud of everyone’s efforts and look forward to continued growth as we support each child's learning journey.

Exploring 2D Shapes in Mathematics
This week’s maths lessons have been all about discovering the fascinating world of 2D shapes. Students engaged in a variety of hands-on activities designed to deepen their understanding of the properties of different 2 dimensional shapes, while also working towards mastery of stage outcomes related to 2 dimensional shapes.
Throughout the week, students examined how smaller shapes can be combined to form larger shapes. For example, they learned that a triangle and a square can be joined together to create a pentagon, fostering their spatial reasoning and creativity.
Our Easter-themed activity invited students to design festive pictures using an assortment of 2D shapes. This not only encouraged artistic expression but also challenged students to identify, classify, and name the shapes used in their creations.
We also enjoyed a round of “Celebrity Shapes,” a guessing game where each student wore a shape name on their head and asked thoughtful questions to deduce their identity. This fun approach promoted critical thinking, collaboration, and reinforced shape vocabulary.
Another highlight was investigating the classroom environment for objects to trace. Students discovered a variety of 2D shapes hidden in everyday items and explored how these shapes are the bases of 3D objects, making connections between two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
Through these engaging activities, students have been actively participating in their learning journey, developing a strong foundation in geometry, and progressing toward achieving important outcomes associated with 2D shapes.

Preparing Our School Garden for Winter and the Holidays
As the days grow cooler and winter approaches, our school garden team has been busy getting everything ready for the changing seasons. Students and staff have worked together to tidy up, mulch garden beds, and plant winter crops such as spinach, cabbage, and garlic. We’ve also added compost to enrich the soil, ensuring a healthy start for next season’s growth.
Over the holidays, the garden will be carefully maintained, with a watering roster in place and protective coverings to shield young plants from cold nights. This is an important time to care for our greenhouse seedlings, and to make sure our bug hotel and worm farm are thriving.
Our garden is a wonderful space for learning and community, and we are grateful for everyone’s help in keeping it beautiful and productive all year round. We look forward to seeing how our winter crops grow and to welcoming everyone back after the holidays to enjoy the results!
Celebrating Student Learning
This week’s assembly was a wonderful celebration of our students' hard work and achievements. We were proud to present merit certificates to many students who have demonstrated outstanding effort, positive attitude, and excellent progress in their learning. Congratulations to all recipients for their dedication and commitment!
In addition, special awards were given to those who went above and beyond in areas such as leadership, kindness, creativity, and community spirit. These awards recognise the exceptional contributions that help make our school a supportive and inspiring place for everyone.
Well done – keep up the fantastic work!
Easter Fun
Students enjoyed a wonderful last day of school filled with Easter-themed learning and play. The classrooms came alive with excitement as children took part in activities like egg hunts, arts and crafts, and team games. These activities not only brought smiles to everyone’s faces, but also helped students practise their counting, creativity, and teamwork skills.
Teachers and staff were delighted to see the students working together and celebrating their achievements from the term. The festive atmosphere was a perfect way to end the school term and welcome the Easter holidays.
We wish all our families a happy and safe Easter break, and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another term of learning!
