Year 11/12 Tourism students step back in time at the Cascade Female Factory

Written by Mrs Lora Warman's Year 11/12 VET Tourism class

The Year 11/12 VET Tourism class recently went on an excursion to the Cascade Female Factory in South Hobart. We found the history dark though very eye-opening.

One of the highlights would be learning of the harsh punishments in particular, solitary confinement.

As part of our excursion, we got to experience the Red Decker Tourist Bus allowing us to site see and become a tourist in our own home area. It was a great opportunity to experience Hobart from a tourist’s perspective.

Breakfast of champions

On Tuesday 10 March, our Year 11 Sport Science students, Charli Gill and Harriet Nattey, had the privilege of attending the International Women's Day Brunch hosted by Womensport and Recreation Tasmania at Ninja Stadium.

The event brought together female students from across southern Tasmania to celebrate the achievements, leadership and impact of women in sport over a delicious brunch.

The morning centred on girls' health and wellbeing, women in sport and leadership, and the many pathways available beyond being an athlete.

Our students were inspired by an amazing panel of guest speakers including national rock-climbing champion, Roxy Perry; Australian cricketer, Lauren Smith; professional basketballer, Kayla Steindl; and Tasmanian netball rising star, Abbey Geappen, who shared their journeys and encouraged students to dream big, pursue their passions and believe in limitless possibilities.

Hearing from women who are leading the way in sport and recreation gives our students the chance to learn from real role models, discover new pathways and see their own potential reflected back at them.

We sincerely thank Womensport and Recreation Tasmania for the opportunity to attend this breakfast – it was a fantastic morning, and our students walked away from the event with armfuls of goodies thanks to the lucky door raffle!”

Scott Roth inspires Year 9/10 students

Last Thursday, we were fortunate to have Scott Roth visit our Year 9 and 10 Pillars classes. He spoke with students about his life journey, the values that shaped him and the challenges he faced, particularly his move to Tasmania during the COVID period and embracing local culture.

His honesty, resilience and passion for growth inspired our students and left them with meaningful insights about perseverance and character.
