SPOTLIGHT ON THE CLASSROOMS

K-2 CLASSROOM

As part of our ongoing focus on Informative Texts in K-2, we’ve been learning about the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Last week, following the completion of our “Big Write,” students worked with their “breakdown buddies” to review their writing through the lens of VCOP.

They highlighted key elements in their work—Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers, and Punctuation—and discussed what worked well (WWW) and what could be improved (EBI) to help guide their writing development.

3-6 CLASSROOM

Real Talk Workshops: Supporting Our Students’ Growth

On 25 June, students in Years 3 to 6 participated in valuable workshops led by two presenters from Real Talk.

Year 3 and 4 students explored themes around ‘Love & Life’ and ‘Getting Real in the Digital World,’ helping them build understanding and awareness about relationships and online safety.

For Years 5 and 6, the workshops covered the same foundational topics, with additional sessions focused on puberty. During this time, boys and girls were separated during one session to address the physical and emotional changes unique to their gender, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment for open discussion.

These workshops play a crucial role in helping our students develop confidence, resilience, and respect as they navigate the important stages of their lives.

LITTLE STARS TRANSITION

Over the past few months, the Sacred Heart Little Stars Transition class has been enthusiastically caring for the school gardens during their Friday lessons with Miss Hamilton. This week, the students had fun creating their very own mini gardens - grassy heads that brought their creativity to life! Alongside their gardening adventures, the children are also learning the importance of playing together and building strong friendships here at Sacred Heart School.

LIBRARY

Students have been thoroughly enjoying their weekly library sessions, where they listen to engaging stories and take part in fun, book-related activities.

We’re pleased to see an improvement in book borrowing and returns - thank you for your support! Remember, each student is encouraged to borrow up to two books every week. Please don’t forget to pack your library bag each Wednesday so you’re ready to borrow and explore new adventures in reading.

LEGO SPIKE IN ACTION!

During some break times, students have been eagerly exploring and building with LEGO Spike kits, engaging in hands-on activities that bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) concepts to life. These innovative kits combine LEGO elements with coding and hardware, allowing students to design, build, and program their own creations.

It's been fantastic to watch students' creativity and problem-solving skills shine through as they collaborate on projects. We've seen amazing teamwork, with coding whizzes stepping in to support their peers and help bring imaginative ideas to life. The energy and enthusiasm in these sessions have been inspiring!
