Snapshots from the week

Year 10 Visual Arts – Skateboard Design Project
Our Year 10 Visual Arts students have been rolling out some serious creativity in their latest design project — custom skateboard decks! Drawing inspiration from contemporary street art, pop culture, and graphic design trends, students developed bold and expressive artworks that transformed blank decks into unique visual statements.
Each board tells a story, showcasing individual style, experimentation with media, and a strong understanding of design principles. A standout project that combined art, culture and creativity — well done, Year 10!
Athletics Carnival
Our second oval came to life recently as we hosted Bulimba State School’s Primary Athletics Carnival! It was fantastic to see so many young athletes giving it their all across a full day of events.
To make the day even more special, our very own Toyne House mascot made a surprise visit to cheer them on and spread some school spirit.
We loved being part of their celebration of sport and energy — go Bulimba!
Congratulations, Oliver!
We’re incredibly proud of our student Oliver, who has been accepted into the Army Familiarisation Work Experience Program at Gallipoli Barracks!
This is an outstanding opportunity that gives students a rare insight into the Army, its careers, training, and daily life within one of Australia’s largest military bases. The program includes hands‑on activities like physical training, interactive displays, tours, and more — an experience that is highly sought‑after and very challenging to secure a spot in.
A huge thanks to Ms Niland, one of our dedicated Guidance Officers, for supporting Oliver throughout the application process and helping him achieve this milestone.
We’re so proud of Oliver for pursuing this unique experience and wish him all the best as he takes this next step towards exploring a future with the ADF!
2025 QDU Debating season
The 2025 QDU Debating season is over for another year. We await news to see if any of our teams have reached the finals in a competition that spans Brisbane’s best.
On Friday 20 June, the whole debating team and coaches enjoyed our traditional ‘End of Season’ dinner at Grill’d, Bulimba. Free chips (thanks Grill’d) provided the natural complement to conversation and laughter.
Balmoral is very proud of the courage and determination of our debaters. Each week you turn up and tune up ready for the challenge of a new topic.
Our other heroes are, of course, the coaches who give of their time and themselves because of their commitment to nurturing the talents of the whole student. Thank you, Ms Coe, Ms Wingate, Ms Nichols, Mr Neill, Ms O’Kearney and our amazing, new debating organiser, Ms Bell.
Finally, many thanks to our parent group without whose navigational skills this would not happen!
"The dinner was a great opportunity for our debaters to get together and have fun. I look forward to it for the years to come." BSHS Student Quote.
Reverse Garbage Queensland Excursion
The 2025 Horizons Academy cohort had a great time on Tuesday 24 June visiting Reverse Garbage Queensland. As part of our project to build clothing circularity in Queensland schools, this was a great chance to learn more about upcycling and recycling.
Our appreciation and understanding for these topics have certainly deepened, and we look forward to putting our knowledge to use as we embark further on our project!
Queensland Department of Education’s Growing Global Competence Fund
We are thrilled to announce that Balmoral State High School has received funding through the Queensland Department of Education’s Growing Global Competence Fund.
Students will build global competence skills through exploring global issues, embracing diverse perspectives, learning to communicate with impact and contributing to a more inclusive, sustainable world.
Stay tuned as we share highlights from this exciting journey!
🏐Ada Clarke: Leading on and off the court!🥈
A huge shoutout to our Girls’ Squad Captain, Ada Clarke, who not only shines as a player but is making an impact as a coach too!
Over the weekend, Ada stepped up to help coach an Under-14 team to a silver medal at the South East Queensland level. 🙌
It’s not every day you see a young athlete taking the initiative to share her knowledge and help others grow. Ada’s leadership, both as a player and a coach, is a testament to the strength and character she brings to the sport.
Congratulations, Ada – you’re an incredible role model for our school and the wider sporting community! 👏🏅
