Student Learning

Foundation
This week in maths the preps learnt some problem solving strategies. They listened to a written problem and then needed to choose a strategy to solve it. Some drew it and some made a model with play dough. They each then shared how they solved it with the class.
Our students drew some gorgeous pictures after talking about growth mindset and closed mindset.
Students have been learning more about problem solving strategies and how to solve equations in different ways by using a 'Think' board. Think boards involve - write it, draw it, make it, show it on a number line. Ask your child how they used a Think board in class?
In Art, the students have been experimenting with printing using paint, playdoh and cardboard! Using fluorescent pastels, the students brightened up their cardboard pictures! Just another wonderful day in Prep!
Year 1/2
Writing: We are incredibly proud of the information reports our students have completed on minibeasts. Their reports include detailed diagrams, interesting facts, as well as information about each creature’s diet, habitat, and predators. They celebrated their hard work by sharing these reports with the other 1/2 classes.
Math: The students have been learning about graphs. They explored how to correctly record data using tally marks and how to read and interpret bar graphs.
Art: The art room was full of colour as the students created their own castles using oil pastels and watercolour paints.
Year 3/4

We had a fantastic group of 21 students who wanted to participate in the Lions Club Junior Public Speaking competition. Students worked extremely hard preparing their speeches and practising presenting them. Last Thursday students had the opportunity to present their speeches to volunteers from the Lions Club. We heard many amazing speeches and the students presented them very well. It was a very hard decision for our Lions Club judges who awarded Harry with 1st Place and Paige with 2nd place. Harry and Paige will go on to represent our school at the
Year 5/6
Writing - Students are currently working on Information Reports and Biographies. Students have chosen a wide variety of topics, including 9/11, famous inventors, authors etc, and have learnt some fascinating facts. Students are up to the publishing stage of their writing and we can't wait to see the end piece that they will share with their peers and other classes.
Reading - Students have been doing close reading. This has involved reading an article or text and analysing/inferring and critiquing.
Maths - This week students have been working on a dream backyard! There has been plenty of imaginative planning with students including a variety of things such as pools, outdoor areas, gardens etc. Students have worked out the area of each item to ensure it will fit in their backyard and researched prices to ensure it will fit into their budget.
Sport - Students continue to enjoy our sporting program which includes 2 Skillzone sessions and 1 PE session each week. We have been putting in lots of practise for our Winter Sports during these sessions and students have enjoyed improving their skills.
