Year Three

Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear families,

This week, our Year Three learners have been full of curiosity as they explored new ideas and deepened their understanding across a range of learning areas.

Religion Education

This week, students have been reflecting on their learning and writing prayers of thanksgiving. They thoughtfully expressed what they are grateful for and made meaningful connections to the life and teachings of Jesus. As part of their reflections, students also shared how they will carry hope and kindness with them into the next part of their journey. It has been a beautiful way to end the term with gratitude, faith, and a forward-looking heart.

Maths

This week in Mathematics, students have been using mathematical modelling to solve real-world problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division—including working with money.

English

This week in English, students have been exploring the fun and creative world of poetry. They have been learning to identify the rhyme structure in different poems and generate their own rhyming words. Using what they’ve learned, students planned, wrote, edited, and published their own original poems. It has been a joyful experience full of rhythm, imagination, and expression, and students have loved sharing their poetic voices with the class.

Integrated Studies

In Integrated Studies, students have been learning about different celebrations and commemorations around the world. They explored American Independence Day, discovering why it is celebrated and how people in the U.S. mark the occasion with fireworks, parades, and flags. Students also learned about World Refugee Day, gaining an understanding of what a refugee is and how we can show kindness and compassion to those who have had to flee their homes. These lessons have helped students build cultural awareness and consider how we celebrate and show respect in different ways.

AUSLAN

In Auslan, students have been learning how to communicate clearly and respectfully using body language and visual cues. They practised looking directly at a person instead of signing "YOU" to give instructions, which helps make their signing more natural and effective. Students also learned how to use pointing to refer to people and objects in the room, just like we use words such as “he,” “she,” or “that” in English. These skills are helping students build confidence in using Auslan in everyday conversations.

Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR

This week in Social Emotional Learning, students have been learning how to support their friends and seek help when needed. They explored practical help-seeking strategies, such as talking to a trusted adult, using calm words to solve problems, or asking a teacher or peer for support. Through role plays and discussions, students practised ways to recognise when someone needs help and how to respond with kindness and care. These skills are helping students build strong, supportive relationships and develop confidence in asking for help when it matters most.
