Foundation

Spotlight on Learning

Galilee Community

We are so proud of everyone’s efforts this term! Each student in Foundation has worked incredibly hard to develop their learning and social skills. We are excited to see how much more we will grow together next term!

Next week, Week 11 of Term 2, we will be learning and engaging in the following:

Religious Education Focus

We are learning about St Thomas the Apostle. St Thomas was one of Jesus’ 12 Apostles. He is sometimes known as doubting Thomas as because he didn’t believe that Jesus had risen from the dead until he saw Him with his own eyes. We have reframed this ti be Curious Thomas. After Jesus went to heaven, Thomas shared the Good News and preached about God’s love. He even travelled all the way to India to tell others about Jesus. We remember St Thomas on his feast day, the 3rd of July.

English Focus

We will continue learning Stage 4 sounds, with our focus being on 'w'. We will be building words using these sounds, such as wax, fix, max and kit. We will continue to read words with Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 sounds. Please check the reading pouch for the sound sheet every week.

Mathematics Focus

We are learning to share and group numbers to 20 using different strategies. We will use objects, drawings, and number stories to help us make equal groups and understand how numbers can be shared.

Social and Emotional Learning

We are learning about managing our emotions. This week, we are learning how to manage our anger. We are talking about what anger feels like in our body and why we feel it. We are also learning different strategies we can use when we feel angry — like taking deep breaths, walking away, talking to someone we trust, or using calm-down tools.

Auslan Focus

This week, we will be revising the Auslan signs we have previously learned. Our focus will be on understanding the rules of Auslan, including how facial expressions help to add meaning to what we are signing. Students will have the opportunity to practice their signs and explore how expression plays an important role in communicating clearly and effectively in Auslan.
