Year Five

Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

Dear Bethany Families,

As we approach the end of Term 2, our students continue to stay focused and work hard. They have particularly enjoyed writing their Meeting Narratives and are making thoughtful connections to The Rabbits by Shaun Tan.

There’s also a buzz of excitement around our upcoming PJ Day on Monday, 30th June! We will be fundraising for St Vincent de Paul, so if you’re able to contribute, please send your child with a gold coin donation.

Next Week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

This week, the students will be deepening their understanding of St Thomas as they learn about his life, his role as one of Jesus’ apostles, and the significance of his faith journey. Through discussion, reflection, and creative activities, they will explore how his story connects to their own faith and learning. The students are eagerly looking forward to celebrating his Feast Day on Thursday, 3rd July, as a special part of our school community.

English Focus

We will be consolidating their knowledge of The Rabbits by Shaun Tan and will be

completing  grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension tasks designed to support their understanding of the text. Students will be working towards creating a different "Meeting Narrative" to deepen their writing skills.

Mathematics Focus

Students will continue comparing equivalent fractions with related denominators. Also, students will be learning how to solve worded problems about fractions, add and subtract fractions with related denominators.

Auslan Focus

Next week in Auslan students will be learning how to sign:

Today is hot
Tomorrow will be hot
Yesterday was cold
Two days ago
In two days

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus:

Students will learn further about sources of help in the school, home and community and rehearse help-seeking strategies through role-playing activity. B rehearsing help-seeking conversations, we’re supporting students to:

  • Build confidence in speaking up
  • Recognise when they need support
  • Use respectful and clear language to communicate their needs
  • Understand that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness
