As we approach the end of term, I want to take a moment to celebrate the wonderful enthusiasm our students have shown for reading. It has been wonderful to see so many children visiting the library during lunch breaks, eagerly exploring new books and sharing their favourite stories. Their passion for reading is so inspiring!
Please encourage your child to bring their library bag on their designated library lesson day and return any outstanding books. This will allow them to borrow new books during the holidays and continue their reading journey.
The upcoming school holidays are the perfect time to dive into new books. Remember, any books read over the holidays can be included in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. It's a fantastic opportunity to keep the reading momentum going and perhaps discover some new favourite stories.
We also encourage families to make mealtime a special time for connection. Instead of using phones or devices at the dinner table, try spending a few minutes reading a short story together or simply talking with your child about their day. These small moments can build stronger bonds and support your child’s language and social development. Let’s make mealtimes device-free and full of meaningful conversation!
In addition to our school library, your local public library is a treasure trove of books waiting to be explored. Many libraries offer holiday reading programs and activities, providing even more opportunities for your child to engage with books and stories.
Don't forget about our digital library resource, SORA, which offers a wide selection of eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines. It's accessible anytime, anywhere, making it easy for your child to enjoy reading on the go.
To access SORA:
SORA includes many books that count towards the Premier’s Reading Challenge, so it's a great tool for holiday reading.
Reading over the holidays isn't just about completing a challenge—it's about fostering a lifelong love of books. Encourage your child to explore different genres, discover new authors, and enjoy the adventures that stories bring.
Thank you for your continued support in nurturing our students' love for reading. Wishing you and your family a joyful and book-filled holiday season!
Happy reading!
