Principal's Message

2025 School Theme - Why Team, Why Team Westbreen

Dear Westbreen PS Families,

What a week it was in Week 8! It was great to see the incursions happening at the school. There was a lot of fun with Bee Bots buzzing around as students coded their movements along a track, and the Year 5/6 area featured virtual reality experiences. Even a couple of staff members got involved in the learning with technology!

Reporting Season

Reports- Understanding our Semester Reports

New Feature- Skills Outcomes

Student semester reports will now include a skills and knowledge section which will outline indicators for Literacy, Numeracy, Integrated Studies, Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships, and Specialist Areas. If a skill or area of knowledge is blank, it indicates that it has not been observed.

The performance levels are defined as follows:

Beginning (B): The student is in the early stages of applying this skill or knowledge and is meeting the expected standard for this time of year.

Consolidating (C): The student is developing their ability to apply this skill or knowledge and is meeting the expected standard for this time of year.

Established (E): The student is consistently applying this skill or knowledge at the expected standard for this time of year.

Proficient (P): The student is able to apply this skill or knowledge at a deeper level that exceeds the expected standard for this time of year.

Reporting Day, Three Way Conferences: Tuesday, 1st of July

Bookings have now been open on the XUNO platform since last Friday. Please ensure you log onto XUNO to arrange your preferred timeslot. The booking platform will close on Monday, June 30th at 12.00pm. Any bookings or changes after this time will need to be made through the office. Interpreter bookings are also available via this service.

Three-Way Conferences are an excellent opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss your child’s progress and semester learning goals. Students are required to attend these conferences as they are an integral part of their learning journey and may be sharing and presenting their learning as part of the conference.

Please remember that during the conferences, students must remain with their families and be supervised.

Respectful Behaviours

As we approach Reporting Day and the Three-Way Conferences, it's important to be mindful of respectful behaviours.

When parents, carers and school staff work together as one team, our students thrive. Everyone at school, particularly staff and parents and carers, play a role in making school a better place for learning and work.

Parents, carers and school staff have a relationship that can last many years. This is an opportunity to work together to create a positive relationship in the best interests of your child. When this relationship is built on respect and trust, students learn better and feel like they belong in the school.

You may have noticed new posters displayed in our school that depict some unacceptable behaviours which can negatively impact our school community. These posters are a visual reminder about the behaviour that does not help us create a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults. I trust that you will continue to keep respect at the core of all interactions with school staff.

The Department of Education’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers and other adults in Victorian school communities.  The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults.  There are also resources to support safe and respectful relationships in our school community, including information about getting involved in the school, advice on how to raise a concern or complaint, and parenting support resources.

To view the policy and these resources, refer to our school website’s policy page.

For more information on how to engage positively with our school, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Planning Week

In Week 10, our staff will be engaged in planning sessions within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to develop key learning progressions for Term 3 in Literacy, Numeracy, Inquiry, and Wellbeing. During this planning day, teams from across the school will create learning tasks that address the targeted needs of students in these curriculum areas for the upcoming term. As a result, your child's specialist classes may differ from their usual schedule during Week 10 and will be held all on one day.

Year 5/6 Camp

Just a friendly reminder that our Year 5/6 camp is coming up on Wednesday, 2nd of July to Friday, 4th of July at YMCA Anglesea Discovery Camp.

Please continue to look out for communication to our families leading up to the event.

Reminders

Playgroup - Every Thursday 9am to 10:30am - All families are welcome!

Last week, we had a high turnout, with many children aged 5 years and under having fun. Thank you to Ms. Kerry and Georgia Poletti Moulds, parent of Raphy, for all your help.

2026 Enrolments - Thank you to all the families that already have submitted their enrolment forms!

We encourage our 2026 Foundation families to visit the office to complete the enrolment process by filling out the school enrolment form and providing evidence of their child's date of birth and immunisation record. To assist with planning, we kindly request that parents finalise their enrolments by the end of this term. This is vital, as we will begin workforce planning in early Term 3. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding the enrolment process, please contact Ms. Kerry Parfett, our Community and Enrolment Facilitator.

Upcoming Dates

  • Tuesday, July 1st - 12:00pm - 8:00pm - Reporting Day
  • Friday, July 4th - Early Finish - 2:15pm.

Wishing you a lovely week of learning!

Kind regards,

Justin Lania
