What are we learning in the Art Room?
Foundation
Foundation students are exploring the work of American artist Alma Thomas. They have been working on their fine motor skills by creating a mosaic rainbow with torn paper. They are learning about the order of colours in the colour spectrum. Students will incorporate the elements of colour, shape, line and texture. They will begin to identify different textures and use words to describe textures they make and view.
Year 1 & 2
Year 1 & 2 students have been exploring the element of texture. They have created an artwork based on the picture story book ‘The Gecko and the Echo’. Students have been having fun learning how to make different textures using a variety of tools and materials. They have experimented with crayon rubbings, bubble painting, printmaking and spray painting.
Year 3 & 4
The Year 3 & 4 students are finishing up their sculpture unit by learning about radial symmetry. Radial symmetry relates to an arrangement around a central point, where the pattern is consistent and repeats. They have designed and decorated their flowers to demonstrate this principle using acrylic paint markers, dot markers, stickers and modelling clay. They are looking fabulous and will glow under UV light.
Year 5 & 6
The Year 5 & 6 students are learning about First Nations Art as they explore the Tjanpi Desert Weavers from the Northern Territory. They are constructing a sculpture based on a chosen Australian Animal. Students had to sketch their chosen animal and then break their diagram up into shapes. They then constructed each of their shapes in 3D form and learned different techniques to join these together. The final step will be wrapping and weaving around the armatures they have created using raffia and wool. It's so great to see the students using their imagination and problem solving skills as they work through the construction process.
Here are some photographs of the Year 5/6 Reverse Perspective Rooms and Pixel Art Mosaics on display.
