Principal's Report

A Month of Fun, Learning, and Celebration!

Dear Wimba Families,

It’s been another action-packed fortnight here at Wimba, and there’s lots to celebrate as we head into the final stretch of Term 2!

Our teachers have been hard at work finalising End of Semester Reports, which are on track to be published next week. These reports are a great opportunity to reflect on student progress and celebrate all the learning that’s taken place this semester.

Farewell and Congratulations

We’re saying a fond farewell to two of our Assistant Principals, Melissa Lake and Belinda Williams, who have accepted leadership positions at the soon-to-open Tarneit Plains Primary School (interim name). They begin their new roles on Monday, July 21st—the first day of Term 3.

Melissa and Belinda have made an incredible impact during their time at Wimba, and while we’ll miss them dearly, we wish them nothing but success and happiness in this next chapter of their careers.

We also farewell one of our Education Support Staff Kamaljit Birl, who has been appointed to a classroom teaching position at Barayip Primary School! We are so proud of her and wish her all the very best in this exciting new role

Extra-Curricular Highlights

Our students have been out and about recently! Grade 1 had a fantastic excursion to Scienceworks, where they explored interactive exhibits and learned more about the world around them. Meanwhile, students in Grades 2 to 6 took part in Wimba’s very first swimming program—and what a splash it was!

A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers and education support staff who made these experiences possible. While the activities are always exciting for students, we know how much planning and teamwork goes on behind the scenes to make them run smoothly. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we’re incredibly grateful.

Swimming Success

We’ve received glowing feedback from the pool staff, who were genuinely impressed by both our students' behaviour and the professionalism of our team. A special shout-out to Mr Schwartz (PE Teacher) for leading the coordination of this event—your organisation and commitment made a big difference.

We know swimming week is a big lift for everyone involved, so thank you again—and we hope you’ve found a moment or two to rest and recharge!

Grade 5/6 Camp Coming Up!

Next up, our Grade 5/6 students are off to their three-day City Experience Camp! This exciting trip is all about building confidence, developing resilience, and strengthening friendships through hands-on activities and exploring Melbourne’s iconic landmarks. We can’t wait to see the photos and hear all the stories when they return!

Welcome to Our New Team Members!

We’re excited to welcome Ms Legudi, who joined us this week! You might have spotted her in the library cataloguing books or tidying shelves— And at the beginning of Term 3, Alex, our new IT Manager, and Melissa, our new School Psychologist, will be officially starting. We’re so pleased to be growing our Wimba team with such fantastic new staff!

Thank you

We’d also like to thank the many parents who have recently contributed feedback for our school review. Your insights help us reflect and improve. The feedback will be discussed at our upcoming School Council Meeting on Monday, 30th June.

Curriculum Contributions

A BIG thank you to the families who have contributed to our curriculum/parent contributions so far. While these contributions are voluntary, they have a significant impact on what we can offer our students. If you haven’t had a chance to contribute yet and feel you can, you can do so via Compass or by contacting the school office for support.

Road Safety Reminder

We’re continuing to talk with students about staying safe when arriving and leaving school, especially around busy areas like Voyager Boulevard. We kindly ask parents not to park too close to school gates to help keep everyone safe. Please also remind your children to use the school crossing and always check for traffic before stepping onto the road.

Our crossing supervisor, David, is always there to help—please encourage your children to use the supervised crossing for the safest route.

NAIDOC Week 2025: Celebrating 50 Years

As we prepare to celebrate NAIDOC Week, we reflect on 50 years of recognising and uplifting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, culture, and achievements. This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”, celebrates the future led by our young people, built on the foundations of those who came before.

From its beginnings as a grassroots movement to a national celebration of resilience and pride, NAIDOC Week is a powerful reminder of the importance of community, culture, and the leadership of our First Nations people.

We encourage all our families to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate this important milestone.

Looking ahead - Parent Teacher Conversations – Tuesday 26th August

Parent-Teacher Conversations will take place on Tuesday 26th August. Families will soon be invited to book a time through Compass to meet with classroom and specialist teachers.

Please note that this will be a half day of school for our students. It’s a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to have in-depth conversations about their child’s learning.

End of Term Details

Term 2 will finish on Friday, 4th July at 1:30pm. If you’re unable to collect your child at this time, please ensure alternative arrangements are in place. Kelly Club will be available for early care on the day.

We hope all our students enjoy a well-deserved winter break—a chance to sleep in, rest, and recharge. Our staff will also be switching off for a much-needed break, so there will be no school communication during the holidays. We’ll be back, refreshed and ready to kick off Term 3!

Principal Update

Just a quick note to let you know that I will be taking Long Service Leave from July 28th to August 1st. During this time, Mr. Robert Nikolic will be stepping in as Acting Principal. I know the school will be in great hands!

Warm regards,Paul
