1/2's News

This week in the Grade 1 and 2 learning area, students have been engaged in a variety of exciting learning experiences across all subject areas.
In Phonics, students have been focussing on letter sounds, blends and digraphs and have used these to identify, explore, and spell words to support their reading and writing development.
In Reading, students have focussed on using clues from the text to help identify the setting and have explored how the setting can influence a character’s actions, feelings, and choices.
In Writing, students have been learning about narrative structure. They have used their understanding of characters and settings to plan the beginning of a narrative, identified a problem for the middle section, and discussed possible solutions for the ending. This week, students used their planning to write the beginning of their story and will continue next week with the middle and end.
In Mathematics, students have been exploring patterns, focussing on identifying, labelling, and continuing repeating patterns, as well as understanding the concept of a "unit of repeat" and the vocabulary associated with patterns.
It’s been a productive and creative week of learning!
