Year Two Team News

Hello Year Two families,

It has been a busy, exciting, and successful term and our Grade Two students should feel proud of the start they have made to the school year. Throughout this term, we have been encouraging the students to show kindness towards one another in the classroom and out in the school yard during break times. We would love to build on our Willy Kids being considerate beyond the school gates and in the greater community. The first and most important way to teach children to be kind is by modelling kindness. Children are always watching and learning from the adults around them, so it is important to be kind and respectful in our words and actions. Over the school holidays, perhaps you could chat with your child about ways to show kindness and respect to others beyond the school community.

Important Dates Coming Up: 

• Local Williamstown Walks: Wednesday 26th March & Wednesday 2nd April: if you are a parent that is interested in attending this walk as a parent helper, please contact your child’s teacher. Please note that to attend the excursion the school office needs to have a copy of your Working With Children Check and you need to have completed the schools volunteering requirements published on Compass. Thank you to those parents who have already volunteered to come along! We look forward to sharing and celebrating the unique and diverse history of Williamstown.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 9-10

Literacy: In Writing, we will be editing and publishing our ‘My Pet the Hero’ narratives. In Reading, we will be continuing to revise the Little Learner’s Love Literacy sounds and practising reading with our fluency pairs. We will continue to enjoy participating in Reader’s Theatre to improve expression and intonation.

Numeracy:  We will be continuing to learn about subtraction, as well as revising what we have learnt this term. 

 Inquiry: We will be attending our local walks and finishing off our inquiry topic ‘Where Are We and What’s Around Us?’ 

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of ‘Respect,’ we are learning about what it looks like to be considerate to others. 

Special Reminders:

Grade 2 Sleepover: Although there is still quite a while until our Grade Two sleepover in early Term Four, the holiday period may be a good opportunity for your child to have a sleepover with a friend to assist them with building their confidence about spending a night away from home. 

Blue Book Bags: In order to help us with our reading program, it is imperative that students continue to bring their blue book bag to school each day. It has been pleasing to see this being done by many of our Willy Kids consistently throughout Term One and we ask that this continues in Term Two.
