We have had a wonderful week reflecting on the meaning of harmony and celebrating our diverse community. We enjoyed listening to texts about diversity and culture and reflecting on the many cultures that are represented in Australia and in our classrooms. We decorated hands to add to a collective art piece of a tree. On our hands we represented our varying cultures in pictures and words. As teachers we always enjoy learning about our Willy families and all the differences that make up our wonderful community.
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 9-10
Reading: We are continuing the Little Learners Love Literacy program that students commenced last year in Prep. During this term we will be revising stage 7.1 of the program which focuses on vowel graphemes. Our focus for the remainder of the term will be revising all of the sounds we have learnt so far.
Writing: Writing ideas will be inspired by our work in Inquiry and through the picture books we read. We will be working on sentence structure, using tier 2 vocabulary and retelling stories. Students will also have the opportunity to create a story of their own.
Numeracy: We will be looking at revising some of the concepts we have already learnt this term. We will also continue maths lessons based on problem solving and number fluency.
Inquiry:. We are coming to the end of our inquiry unit and what it means to keep our community, body and mind safe. Students have enjoyed the unit and will now have a number of different tools to help them keep healthy minds and bodies.
Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: Through the pillar of Respect, we are learning about how Willy Kids value the rights of others. Our focus for Respectful Relationships this term is “Positive Coping Strategies”. We have been learning and will continue to focus on recognising and identifying positive coping strategies and how this might look in the classroom and at home.
