They have memorised the space notes of the treble clef: F A C E and have played a song called “Face It” on tuned percussion instruments. They have also started working on a song called “Poor Old Cinderella.”

Grade 3/4 – Students have continued learning about Calypso music and have been rehearsing singing and playing the song “Best Years of our Lives” on the marimbas and steel drums.

Sports Update

A huge congratulations to Danica G, Nicholas F, and Samantha T, who have all qualified for the Western Metropolitan Region Swimming Championships in Breaststroke! They will be competing on Tuesday, May 1st, representing Willy Primary at the next level. This is an incredible achievement, and we wish them the best of luck as they race against the top swimmers in the region!

This week also marks the final round of Summer interschool sport for our Grade 5/6 students. Several of our teams are in strong contention to reach the Grand Final, and we know they’ll bring their best effort and sportsmanship to their games on Friday. Good luck to all teams competing—we can’t wait to see how you go!

Visual Arts

Over the next few lessons, we will continue to celebrate the unique Yayoi Kusama style. This week, all classes have worked on art pieces that celebrate 3D. All art pieaces hadve been inspired by Kusama’s sculptures.

The Grade Prep’s completed their mini Yayoi Kusama figures. These are so quirky and fun with very interesting expressions! Can you spot yours? Some of these are on display in the office and in the art room if you want to pop in for a closer look.

The Grade 1/2’s continue to work on their 3D flowers. This week we are adding the leaves and looking at how we can give them a bit of a 3D feel. The students have experimented and come up with some amazing ideas. These are nearly ready to be assembled and put on display.

The Grade 3/4’s are onto the final stages of their 3D masterpieces. This week we are finishing off the vases and moving onto the flowers. I really am impressed with the experimentation and creativity they have shown when coming up with various techniques to make their art pieces come to life!

The Grade 5/6’s put the finishing touches onto their 3D pumpkins this week and uploaded their photos onto Google Classroom. Most have now moved onto completing the front covers of their art books showcasing their name through pattern and colour.

Hobsons Bay 5x7 Art Competition

The Grade 5/6 volunteers have now completed their 5x7 canvas entries and 24 masterpieces have been chosen as our 2025 entry. I will be sending these off to The Hobson’s Bay Art Society on Monday where they will be displayed and judged. All the school entries will be displayed at an exhibition which will be held at the Louis Joel Centre in Altona from 5th – 24th April. Judging of all the art competition entrants will happen on Saturday 5th April at 2pm. The community are welcome to visit this exhibition. A big thank you to these students for giving up quite a few lunchtimes to work on their mini canvases. Goodluck everyone!!!!

Harmony Week

To celebrate Harmony week this week, each class added their finger print to a bird silhouette. Each year level was colour coded: Preps- Orange, Gr 1’s- Red, Grade 2’s-Teal, Grade 3’s-Green, Grade 4’s-Yellow, Grade 5’s-Blue and Grade 6’s-Purple. A beautiful collaboration and celebration of harmony at our school. These are on display outside the office.

***Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

Warm Regards,

LOTE (French)

Tout Sur MOI

(All About ME)

As Term 1 is drawing to an end, we are bringing together some of the learnings so far through singing, performing and creating in the French room. Did you know that learning a second language helps reinforce your literacy skills in your own native language!!

Year 1s

Students have worked actively and productively on talking about themselves. We have just brought it all back together to consolidate how to express name / age / place of residence / favourite animal in fully structured French sentences to present ourselves to others. As a continuation of this, students are going to exploring the song ‘Je suis MOI et tu es TOI’ (I am me and you are you) to sing and talk about close family members.

Year 2s

They have been continuing their work on ‘Les Parties Du Corps’ (The parts of the body) by listening, speaking and labelling their own drawings about themselves. To reinforce the language, students have been having a great time playing ‘Jacques a dit’ (Simon says – apart from the fact it’s Jack in French!). As we get closer to the end of the game, I say the sentences faster which really puts everyone on the edge of their seats to determine the winner of the game…hahaha! Students are now ready to explore the body song ‘Des Os, Il En Faut!’ (Bones, we need them!) as they will get to write the lyrics to sing along to it wholeheartedly.

Year 3/4s

Students have been extending on their self-presentation work by, not only delivering their speeches to their classes, but also matching fully structured questions with answers to talk about themselves. This process has required attention to detail, problem-solving strategies to analyse the text and identify key words and logical thinking to link Q&As from two different text sources. Kudos 3/4s! To complete the term, students will expand on their knowledge by talking about their classroom environment with ‘Moi Et Ma Classe’ (Me and my classroom) through singing, playing and writing.

Year 5/6s

They have been working diligently on French grammar in the last couple of weeks, getting their head around the gender concept that applies to words in roman languages such as French. For example, ‘la voiture’ (the car) is a feminine word while ‘le camion’ (the truck) is a masculine word. It was really good to see how this language intricacy sparked their interest and curiosity and got them engaged in inquiries about a large variety of words. To put it into practice, students had to write sentences about themselves and a special one in their life by utilising the sentence starters ‘je suis’ (I am) and ‘tu es (you are). They had to pay particular attention to the adjective gender choices they needed to make to remain coherent.  Further to this, students will be writing up ‘La Présentation De …’, an extensive profile of themselves completely in French, which they will also get to record for their respective classes.
