SPOTLIGHT

Spotlight Year 3

Our Year 3 students have had an exciting and productive start to the year! With NAPLAN now complete, they have been able to focus on a range of engaging learning experiences. In sport, they have enjoyed developing new movement skills, building confidence, and having fun with their peers. Our Under the Sea theme has inspired incredible artworks, showcasing creativity and imagination.

In writing, students have explored both persuasive and imaginative texts, refining their ability to express ideas in different ways. Currently, they are working on a special project—creating narrative picture books to share with Kindergarten students. We can’t wait to see their stories come to life and witness the joy of storytelling in action!

Maths has been all about hands-on learning, with students exploring angles through interactive and engaging activities. We are also investigating different strategies for adding numbers, using catchy phrases to help remember key concepts. Ask your child to finish this phrase… "Commute, commute…"!

A highlight of the term so far was Green Day! Students had a fantastic time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by eating lollies, playing games, and taking part in exciting activities organised by our wonderful Year 6 students. Best of all, we raised money for CARITAS, supporting those in need.

It’s been a fantastic term so far, and we look forward to more exciting learning ahead!

Spotlight Year 6

Year 6 has had a busy and productive start to their final year of primary school. We began our year with learning about a range of different poetry forms before finishing up this unit with writing either a ballad or nonsense poem, which we then published into digital class books. We have now moved onto another imaginative text by beginning to write a narrative around the idea of a fantasy land and entering this land via a portal which is inspired by our class text this term, Bridge to Terabithia

In Mathematics we began our year with a unit on 3D objects and the highlight was working in groups to design and construct a chair strong enough to hold a student made out of newspaper. We have also been looking at using a range of addition and subtraction strategies to solve challenging multi-step word problems.

Preparing for hosting Green Day this year has been an exciting time and the students are to be commended on their team work, cooperation, organisation and passion. It was so lovely to hear their positive encouragement to students at each of their stalls and to see them leading with such enthusiasm. The day was such a huge success due to their preparation. We thank all our Year 6 students and their parents for helping to make this day such a success for the whole school.

Our Year 6 students still have a range of exciting events coming up to finishing off the term, including our leaders heading to Sydney for Halogen’s Leadership Day, our own school Leadership Day in week 11, the Science and Engineering Day at TRECC and an excursion to the Astronomy Club.

A massive thank you to all involved in our Green Day activities! We raised over $750.00 in one day. A big shout out to all our Year 6 students, staff and parents for organising all the amazing activities. Your creativity and leadership was outstanding!
