FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Term 1 - Week 8
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
I am pleased to share that our Year 3 and Year 5 students have successfully completed their NAPLAN assessments for this year and we are incredibly proud of their efforts throughout the process. Over the last two weeks our students in Years 3 and 5 were assessed in the areas of Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy.
NAPLAN is just one of many ways we monitor student learning and progress, and we want to acknowledge the hard work our students put in. They approached the assessments with a positive mindset and gave their best effort, which is all we could ever ask for. We also want to extend our gratitude to our teachers for their support and guidance, and to you, our parents, for encouraging your children to always give their best effort. Your ongoing partnership in their learning journey is invaluable.
Results will be available later in the year, and while they provide useful insights, they are just one part of the bigger picture of each child’s development. Every student is more than a test score, and we continue to celebrate their individual strengths and achievements in all areas of learning.
GREEN DAY
Very few days on our school calendar encapsulate our wonderful St Nicholas school spirit like Green Day. It is always a highlight for students and staff and this year certainly did not disappoint. St Patrick turned on some beautiful warm weather for us and our Year 6 students, teachers (and parents) did an amazing job planning, organising and running stalls for our Infants and Primary students, as well as our parents and friends.
I would like to thank all our parents and friends who attended Green Day and helped make the day so special and memorable for our students. Your ongoing support of our whole school events is much appreciated.
And of course a huge thank you and well done to our Year 6 leaders who ran the stalls and activities that made the day so special. The patience and care you showed for our younger students was exceptional, and was noticed and appreciated by the wider school community. The day was also a very successful fundraiser for Caritas. Raising over $750.00. Well done everyone!
Kindergarten 2026 Open Morning
It is hard to believe given that our 2025 Kindergarten students are only still settling into their school routines and learning all about what it means to be at ‘big school’, that we are well underway planning for our Kindergarten students in 2026.
Today we welcomed prospective families of our 2026 Kindergarten students at our Open Morning.
This was a wonderful opportunity to meet new families and show them first hand what it looks like to be a student in Kindergarten at St Nicholas School. The morning started with a short presentation from myself and other members of our leadership team, then our new parents got to see our teaching and learning up close as we moved through the learning spaces during the morning English Block. The morning then concluded back in the Auditorium where our leadership team answered any questions our parents had.
I would like to thank Mrs Dunst, Mrs Daley and Mrs Tobler for their work in showing our families around the school and Mrs Crockett for all her organisation behind the scenes.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone,
Peter Flynn
