Years 4 & 6

Learning in Year 4 & 6

This term we have been following our revamped Literacy Instructional Model, following the structured Literacy approach. Every week we have a session on morphology and vocabulary.

Morphology is the study of words and word parts. So far, we have learnt the following:

“logy” – the study of

“meter/metre” – measure of

“graph/gram” – written or drawn symbols, communication.

“hydr” – water

“mono” – one.

Ask your child to give you an example of each and tell you what the word means. We have had a lot of fun learning new words and making up our own.

In Maths we continue to focus on Place Value. We have been rounding numbers to different placings and renaming numbers. We have also been measuring length, perimeter and area.

Our wellbeing sessions have been focused on The Zones of Regulation. So far we have talked about the emotions and feelings that fit within each zone. We have also talked about how different people’s perceptions can impact which zone they are in. For example, a thunderstorm might make some people feel in the “red” zone because they are terrified, whereas others may be in the “yellow” zone because it makes them feel nervous but excited. We all feel things differently – and that’s okay. It’s important that we realise that everyone has a different perception of events. We need to recognise our own feelings and the feelings of others so that we can use strategies to regulate ourselves, and support others.
